Hooves director Ayappa directs Aussie cricketer David Warner in new CRED TVC via Moonshot India
Australian cricketer David Warner is starring in a new campaign for CRED, helmed by Hooves director Ayappa and Indian agency Moonshot.
The film plays on Warner’s love of having himself inserted into scenes from Indian films.
If Warner is any guide, people may be seeing him at the 2024 Oscars for his role in the latest Hindi blockbuster. At least that’s what the Aussie cricketer believes in a new campaign from Indian agency, Moonshot.

The spot recently launched during the IPL and within a week has amassed over two million views on the Cred YouTube channel alone, spawning some astute comments like: “Is it just me or does Warner look like a Mark Wahlberg who just came out of a nuclear reactor?”
Says Ayappa: “SS Rajamouli jokingly said on X that it was the longest shoot of his life, but for me it was the fastest seven hours ever. I’ve directed many time-poor sporting stars in commercials but none where we had to create multiple scenes from epic action films, all in a very short shoot day. Luckily I was working with a future Academy Award winner.”

I thought David Warner’s acting was terrible, then realised it worked in the ad’s favour.
Warner has come a long way since “Speak English mate”. Funny stuff.
