If you missed GRUEN SWEAT Ep 1 catch it here on ABC iview.
Gruen Sweat host Wil Anderson and regulars Todd Sampson and Russel Howcroft will be joined by guest panellists as they commentate on the ‘brandtathlon’ better known as London 2012 – exposing the marketing machine that underpins, underwrites and over-exploits the Olympics.
Guest panellists include Kirstie Marshall – Winter Olympian. Awarded OAM for her contribution to skiing and sports administration and Rob Mills – director and CEO of GEMBA GROUP (GEMBA provides business and brand strategies to the sports and entertainment industry.)
Tonight’s episode includes:
- Brand Police Update: This week’s best attempts to get around those pesky IOC rules.
- The Bolt Report – That’s Usain Bolt, not Andrew Bolt. He’s the fastest man on the planet. He has a signature pose. Unlike most athletes, he can act. And he’s happy to take the piss out of himself. Is this the man that sponsorship dreams are made of? Gruen investigates.
- The London 2012 logo – Good? Bad? Worth the $800,000 that was spent on it?
- Olympic ads – “Your ad program will continue right after this short sport break…” It’s not just the number of ad breaks getting to us viewers. It’s watching the same ads over and over again. The Gruen team looks at the HIGH rotation commercials.
- Personal Worst – each week the Gruen team will showcase the WORST performances by athletes in TV commercials. Front runner for tonight? Australian cricket’s Doug Bollinger.
The Pitch features Troy O’Brien (Kingdom) vs Richard Overall (Freeform).
The Challenge: A global campaign to convince other countries that Aussie Rules should be accepted as an Olympic sport.
The Client: Friends of the AFL (FAFL)

I saw Wil Anderson in the city the other day. He was wearing trackie pants.
I used the word Olympics in reference to an ad. Then I got into trouble. The end.
Is this show still on?
