The summer advertising blitz will see the commercials air for eight weeks in different metropolitan and regional areas nationally to capitalise on the Christmas retail season and New Year sales. The new EPG commercial uses some of Freeview’s most popular shows to highlight a number of the EPG’s outstanding functions and features.

Says Freeview CEO Robin Parkes: “Our summer advertising campaign has the dual aim of encouraging people to buy the new Freeview EPG endorsed products and for those people who have not switched to digital TV to make the switch because there’s so much great content on offer, all for free.

Freeview EPG TVC 2 December 2010.jpg“This caps off a huge year for Freeview. We celebrated our second birthday last month and in just two short years we have gone from just five channels, to a brand new digital environment where viewers in metropolitan areas are able to access 16 channels. We also launched an online TV guide and our new EPG to make navigating through the amazing array of content even easier for viewers.

“Three in four households – or 75% of Australians – have switched to Freeview digital TV already and we believe the new EPG, which delivers a significantly enhanced viewing experience for consumers, will offer another compelling reason to make the switch.”

The Freeview EPG is the result of close collaboration between all the free-to-view networks and will include all the Freeview channels.

It will collate program data from all networks for simultaneous transmission in a consistent format, while new MHEG 5 technology also means that the Freeview EPG will have video streaming and text capability, allowing consumers to continue to watch TV whilst navigating the EPG.
