FG Entertainment director Marc Furmie works on ‘Event Zero’ web-series for Movie Extra Webfest
Filmgraphics Entertainment director Marc Furmie recently directed two episodes of Event Zero, a web-series for Movie Extra Webfest.
The series was created and produced by Distracted Media, the creative team behind ‘The Tunnel’, an Australian, mostly ‘crowd funded’ film that has attracted over 5 million views and caused quite the stir in the entertainment industry.
Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey, the team that make up Distracted Media, asked Furmie to shoot two episodes of this seven part series, that take a look into the different character’s perspective of the same incident – a train derailment in Sydney’s Circular Quay.
Furmie’s first episode ‘Pamela’, the second in the series, follows a mother who is also the Minister for Transport as she is torn between family and duty. We get an insight into a world of secrecy, deception and intrigue as the derailment leads to a disease outbreak.
You can see the first episode of ‘Event Zero’ by following this link. The first episode is currently live with the entire series being released in June.
His second episode in the series ‘Yusuf’ explores dark territory as a Muslim passenger is accused of terrorist activity and violently interrogated.
“I was lucky to work with such a great cast; Harry Pavlidis (Gabriel), Henry Nixon (The Pacific), Zoe Carides (Crownies) and Christiaan Van Vuuren (one of the Bondi Hipsters duo) and although the budget was extremely tight, our constraints forced us to be focus on storytelling.”
Furmie joined other directors on the project including Carlo Ledesma (The Tunnel) Shane Abbess (Gabriel) and Andrew Traucki (The Reef, Black Water).
Furmie was attracted to working with Tedeschi and Harvey thanks to their can-do attitude. The Tunnel was made through crowd funding by selling individual frames of the film and has produced a great deal of kudos for them. They are now in development on a sequel to ‘The Tunnel’ with Screen Australia and will be working alongside Filmgraphics Entertainment to co-develop a television series.
Furmie is also currently in development on Kingdom Come, a feature film that has received support from Screen Australia. The film will be produced by Martin Fabinyi (Wolf Creek, Chopper) at Beyond Australia. Furmie is currently pitching on commercial work from Filmgraphics’ new office in Walsh Bay.
