Figma launches first office in Sydney, deepening commitment to growing user community

Figma, a leading collaborative product design and development platform, is opening an office in Sydney, its first in Australia.

The opening of Figma’s Sydney office builds on Figma’s impact in Australia and will help deepen relationships with its growing local community and key customers, such as Telstra and Atlassian, who is also a Figma integration partner and investor.

Figma has already established a strong foothold in Australia, with many of the country’s leading brands brainstorming, designing and building digital products on its platform. Beyond Atlassian and Telstra, current customers include Coles, EndeavourX, and Safety Culture. Launch events scheduled to mark Sydney’s office launch and the first Friends of Figma event in Melbourne this week have seen an overwhelming response, with almost a thousand RSVPs to attend, far exceeding the initial capacity projections.

Figma’s expansion into Australia aims to strengthen these relationships and develop new partnerships, particularly with enterprises seeking to leverage Figma’s expanding platform to design and build differentiated digital products.

”What drew us to Australia is its vibrant and fast-growing community of passionate designers, we’re also seeing this play out with more companies investing in design,” said Dylan Field, CEO and Co-founder of Figma. “This new office represents our deep and ongoing commitment to Australia and our belief that being closer to our users helps us build better products and continue innovating with their needs at the forefront.”

From its inception, Figma has been a global company, with over 85% of its users based outside the United States. Today, more than half of Figma’s revenue comes from markets outside the U.S. The company has accelerated its global growth in recent years, opening offices in New York, Tokyo, Singapore, London, Paris, and Berlin.

The Sydney launch coincides with Figma’s expansion of AI capabilities and the unification of its products into one platform.

Over the years, Figma has evolved from a design tool into a comprehensive platform that enables collaboration across the product development process – from early-stage ideation to development and code.

Today, teams can brainstorm using FigJam, collaborate to refine designs or create prototypes in Figma Design, and bridge the gap between design and development with Dev Mode, ensuring a seamless workflow from start to finish. Figma has also leveraged AI to democratize and accelerate the product development process, particularly through the introduction of FigJam AI in 2023 and Figma AI in 2024.

Figma’s breakneck growth pace of the past years also reflects a broader industry shift towards design-centric product development. “As software development continues to grow exponentially, design will be a key differentiator and will be how companies win or lose. Companies are rapdily recognising that design is more that how something looks; it’s also how it works,” says Field.

While the company is leveraging AI to automate repetitive tasks and boost designer productivity, it remains committed to enhancing human-led creativity.

“AI lowers the barrier to entry in design and product development, making it easier for people who aren’t fluent in design or product building to participate in the process,” said Noah Levin, Figma’s VP of Design. “At the same time, AI can also raise the ceiling for what’s possible in design, enabling professional to push the limits of product design and the borders of creativity even further.”
