BMF launches Expedia 2012 brand campaign leading with ‘Thailand on $222’ tv spots
Expedia, the worldʼs largest online travel company, has just launched its 2012 brand campaign via BMF sydney.
The campaign aims to educate people about the savings you can make by booking your flight and accommodation together with Expedia.
The campaign continues on from the success of last year’s ʻNew York on $50ʼ campaign, where Expediaʼs travel host, Shura, demonstrated how travellers could spend the money they save. This time, he took on Thailand with a saving of $222.
Over just a few days, Shura and the team captured a raft of both iconic and unexpected experiences relevant to all types of travellers. From enjoying crunchy local cuisine at night markets and unique cultural entertainment, to elephant rides through jungles and boat trips out to Phi Phi Islands, the new campaign highlights the importance of saving money by showing what you can do with $222 in Thailand.
The 30″ TVC and 90″ documentary were directed by Craig Melville and Al Morrow at Jungleboys, along with renowned ʻEntourageʼ DoP Stephen Friedbeg.
The TVC, online film, large format outdoor campaign, print and an online push willpremiere in Australia and New Zealand this week.
Says Joana Barros, senior marketing manager, Expedia Australia & New Zealand: “Our ʻNew York on $50ʼ campaign was a huge success, so we wanted to continue the story through the lens of our new product, Expedia Holidays – which offers both flexibility and great savings. Our new ad brings to life the average saving you can make when you book your flight and hotel together for Thailand, by showing what you can do with an extra $222 in your pocket. We are all very proud of the work and hope Australia loves it as much as we do.”
Says Carlos Alija, executive creative director, BMF: “We are looking to build on the success of last year. The Expedia work has some great properties that we will continue to push.”

$13 for some crickets and $15 for snorkel hire. In Thailand? You got ripped off mate.
a tad boring in form/style, not at all distinct from the usual TV travel-blog stories like getaway…
boring
bring back the beds
If anything should have been shot hand held and full of energy this is it ….buts it not…
could have saved thousands on production!
Wheres the energy, the hand held enthusiasm of travel adventure and discovery could have been done so much more realistically …what a waste of great opportunity
The fools! I’ll be rich!! Muhahaha!!!
It made me go on Expedia site – but ended up cheaper buying Thailand flights directly on the Thai Airways site!!
