Example expands creative partnership with Epochal Hotels as iconic portfolio grows

Earned-led culture agency Example is proud to continue its long-standing partnership with Epochal Hotels, continuing to shape brand strategy, place concept design, visual identity and PR across its expanding portfolio of iconic Australian properties.
Since 2019, Epochal Hotels has undertaken a remarkable journey to revitalise hospitality and accommodation properties on the East Coast of Australia, creating spaces that are deeply connected to place and community. As Epochal’s creative partner, Example has been at the forefront of shaping and evolving these concepts, ensuring each venue is authentic, future-focused and in harmony with its surroundings.
Notable transformations, such as the Harbord Hotel, celebrating the spirit of Freshwater Beach and Australian surf culture, and the Beach Hotel in Merewether, inspired by Newcastle’s steel-city grit, have set the standard for place-led storytelling. These projects have garnered industry recognition for their innovative design and community impact.
The next exciting project is Epochal Hotels’ CEO Glenn Piper’s highly anticipated luxury eco-resort on Hook Island, opening in 2027. Nestled in the heart of the Whitsundays, the eco-lodge will feature 39 biophilic cabins, an arrival pavilion, two distinctive dining experiences, forest eco-pools, wellness spaces, and adventure activities, setting a new standard for luxury travel in Australia.
Later this year, Epochal Hotels will re-open The Commodore Hotel in McMahon’s Point following a thoughtful restoration, alongside the second phase of Harbord Hotel which will introduce a new hospitality experience and a recording studio for local artists on the second level. Additional projects in development include the spectacular Scarborough Hotel in the Illawarra region and the transformation of Q Station into a world-class destination that honours its rich history and natural beauty.
Example is leading the strategy, place concept design, branding, and earned media amplification for all these ventures.
Glenn Piper, CEO of Epochal Hotels, said: “Our focus has always been on creating places with soul – destinations that connect deeply with their surroundings and the people who visit them. The Example team has been an instrumental partner throughout our journey, bringing unmatched vision, passion and creativity to every project.”
Rebecca Jarvie-Gibbs, Example’s Managing Director, said: “Epochal Hotels is redefining Australian hospitality, creating destinations with authenticity and deep connection to place and community. Glenn’s integrity and vision are at the heart of everything we do together. It has been an honour to be part of the Epochal team’s extraordinary journey and we’re excited for what promises to be a landmark year ahead.”
For over eight years, Example has partnered with property developers, operators and hotel brands to transform spaces into vibrant cultural landmarks. As an earned-led culture agency, Example combines storytelling, strategy, and creative execution to shape every aspect of a venue’s experience. By working with an extraordinary team of architects, designers, chefs, beverage experts, musicians and sustainability specialists, Example ensures the vision is seamlessly integrated into every detail.
Andy El-Bayeh, CEO and Co-Founder of Example, concluded, “Great hospitality starts with a clear vision and a compelling story that goes beyond traditional branding. Our role is to craft that narrative and embed it into every touchpoint – from architecture to menus, drinks to music – creating a cohesive experience that endures.”
