Ex-Colenso Head of Design + Group CD launch new creative studio ‘Freebird’ with producer partner
Freebird is a new creative studio operating at the intersection of design and comms to help brands remain elevated and consistent to their core purpose across every channel. Founded by Dave and Shannon Brady, the collaborative studio takes a holistic approach to how clients connect with their audiences to ultimately give them a more cohesive and distinctive brand presence.
Says Dave: “From my time at various network agencies, I’ve worked with many clients struggling to keep their brands consistent with multiple agency partners across comms, design and digital. Rarely did these partners work seamlessly together adhering to the client’s core brand purpose, sharing a consistent tone, visual direction and vision. More often than not, the scrabble for budgets and desire to work independently created a disparate brand presence and extended timelines. It always struck me that there was a better way to operate, so we started Freebird to bridge the gap between design and comms and help brands run their core purpose through everything they do.”
Says Shannon: “We want to keep things sharp and nimble. We have a core team and bring in specialists depending on the needs of each project. We’re surrounded by and connected to great people who can dip in and out as needed. It’s a more efficient way of operating without compromising on creativity or craft.”
Freebird has based themselves inside the shared creative space at The Tuesday Club in Auckland’s CBD alongside publishers, directors, baristas, artists, makers, thinkers and doers collaborating on various projects.
Says Dave: “Our model means we can work directly with our own clients, alongside other creative businesses or even inside clients’ internal teams to boost their capabilities. The creative landscape has changed so much – it’s refreshing being able to work with lots of different individuals and entities in various fields, in new and interesting ways. If you’re open minded and truly able to collaborate with a shared belief that you’re all in it to make the work better, you’ll make better work.” DB
