Envato founders launch free Milkshake app for instagrammers to make instant websites

Milkshake, a free app for instagrammers to make an instant website without desktops, design or web development skills, has today launched globally. The official launch comes after a five week early access period that saw over 24,000 app downloads across 95 countries.

Founded by Cyan and Collis Ta’eed, the co-founders of one of Australia’s most successful technology businesses, Envato, the idea for Milkshake was driven by wanting to help people, predominantly women, to build their personal brands and to commercialise their social media presence.

Says Cyan Ta’eed: “We saw that there was a huge audience of entrepreneurial women using Instagram to grow their brands who were struggling to transition their business from community and content to commerce. The incredible response to Milkshake so far shows they just need the right tools to make it a reality.

“1 in 3 Australians use Instagram and many of them are using it to turn their ideas, hobbies and ambitions into a business. By providing a fun, easy and beautiful app to make a custom site directly through their Instagram profile, Milkshake helps them leverage their content into better business outcomes.”

To create their own Milkshake Insta website, users can pick from a range of ‘cards’, unique website pages with specific features to say, sell or share. Then simply swipe through Milkshake’s range of looks to pick a style to fit each card, add content and publish instantly. Early access reporting from the app has shown the median time to create a Milkshake is under 10 minutes.

The app has been launched globally but for now the team will focus on Australian users to test and refine the product in the coming months.

Says Ta’eed: “Our initial focus is the Australian market but we quickly plan to scale into the USA and Europe, two of our biggest markets for Envato.”

The international response to Milkshake has already been strong, with the app featured as #3 in the USA app store’s ‘Apps We Love Right Now’.
