Enigma acquires Sydney creative agency Disciple; Disciple founders Peter Buckley and Tim Brown appointed executive creative directors at Enigma

Awarded Sydney creative agency Disciple has been acquired by Enigma, one of Australia’s largest independent agencies. Following the acquisition Disciple founders Peter Buckley and Tim Brown will take on executive creative director roles at the agency which has offices in Surry Hills and Newcastle.
Starting with Enigma today, Disciple founders and long-time creative partners Peter Buckley (left) and Tim Brown (right) are responsible for some of Australia’s favourite advertising campaigns including Tooheys, Hilux, Subaru, Sunrice, Toyota and Olympus.
Enigma founder Lisa Sutton Gardner said the agency was on a determined growth path and had been looking to strengthen its ranks to provide existing and new clients with a powerhouse creative offering: “Pete and Tim are a highly awarded team, but more impressive to Enigma is that their work demonstrates a genuine connection with every Australian, and that is what Enigma is about.
“We are proud to work with clients all over the country in both metropolitan and regional centres and the Disciple team is a natural extension of who we are and what we do.
“Enigma has enjoyed significant growth in the past few years and we attribute this to our strong connection to Australia’s heartland and our no-nonsense approach to growing our clients’ success. Pete and Tim share this approach and bring an incredible pedigree of great thinking that moves the needle.”
Brown said Enigma was a great Australian agency with a unique offering: “Enigma is strong in both regional and metro markets. They have an insight into the hearts and minds of real Australia like nobody else.
“The thinking is high quality and so are the people. It’s a great fit for us.
“Being acquired by an independent Australian owned agency was important to us. For our clients it offers increased expertise and capabilities. We can’t wait to roll our sleeves up and do great things across the group.”
Enigma now has its sights set on expansion into the Brisbane market in 2021.

2 of the best!!! Huge congrats
Nice work Lisa 🙂
Nicely done! Couldn’t have happened to two nicer, more talented fellas.
Nice one lads. Maybe some more time for tennis now PB?
Great stuff Tim and Pete.
Nice work Tim, Pete and Enigma.
Enigmatically, I have never heard of Enigma. But I’ve known and worked with both Pete and Tim (separately) over 20 years ago, so I wish them well. Tim’s ‘look’ never changes, but congrats to Pete on evolving his style from surfie to funky winemaker or groovy architect, the sort who’d drive a 2CV.
Congrats to all. Especially Enigma who pick up two of the best!
Congrats P+T.
You blokes are straight out legends.
Great pickup Enigma!
Great blokes. best of luck
Happy for Pete and Tim – you’ve worked hard to keep Disciple intact and in business, in a hard, cut-throat market – ,but sad the PR release didn’t have the class, or professional courtesy to recognise the hard work and talent of Enigma’s out-going ECD, Pete Ogden – who to all who have had the the pleasure of working with and for him, is also known as a ‘powerhouse creative offering’, with more awards to his name than most, as well as being an all-round great ‘blerk’.
Fair point Leesy. An insensitive oversight. Oggy did a lot for Enigma and after 4 years at the helm he left the work a whole lot better than he found it. It’s great to see him continue to thrive. And yep, we’re delighted to have Tim and Pete onboard and already enjoying writing the next chapter with them.
