Eclectic Music launches with a new studio
Matt Hayward and Alex Gomez, formerly of Sound Reservoir, have opened Eclectic Music, an independent, bespoke music production company that specialises in composing and producing music for the advertising (tv, radio, online) and film industries.
This week they officially opened the doors to their new state of the art studio facilities at Jones Bay Wharf with a bash for invited industry bods and have launched their website.
With the purpose of acting as a conduit between musicians, bands, composers, music producers, the major/ independent record labels andmarketers, Hayward and Gomez saw a niche in the marketplace whereEclectic Music could replace some of the current music business models, which are no longer relevant.
“Our industry is in disarray and oldbusiness models are becoming defunct,” Hayward said. “Downloading musicand peer to peer file sharing is rampant. Bands are circumventingtraditional recording/promotion/distribution avenues and doing theirown thing online. Marketers, agencies and record labels are finding itincreasingly confusing to work their way around this music maze. Thisis where Electic Music can play a role in managing the process.”
Thepartners in the business both have strong musical backgrounds. Haywardhas over 20 years experience in music production as, at various times,a label manager, A&R manager, studio manager, DJ, producer, andpromoter. This has provided him with unique expertise in the areas ofrecording, publishing and advertising/marketing.
Gomez, who was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, has a background insound engineering, music production and as a musician. Formerly in theband Watussi, Alex moved into production and composing for advertisingand film in 2006. Both Hayward and Gomez are motivated by their lovefor recording and writing music. Eclectic Music plans to collaboratewith a number of musicians in order to keep providing clients with afresh approach for each job.
“We want to build a network of people whowant to collaborate with us. This approach is important due to the fastpaced nature of the music industry,” says Gomez.
They currentlyrepresent composers including Tom Schutzinger (Freelance) who wrote thesoundtracks for Lucky Country and won an AFI for Somersault with hisformer band Decoder Ring, and Luke McAvenna who has played as a sessionmusician for bands including The Empire of the Sun and Pnau. There areplans to collaborate online with musicians in Europe, USA and SouthAmerica.
The facilities at Eclectic Music feature state of the artdigital and analogue technologies ensuring recordings of the highestcalibre. All their mixes are mastered at 301 Studios, the bestmastering facility in Australia.
