Director Sandy Widyanata joins Film Construction

Film Construction has announced the addition of director Sandy Widyanata to their roster.

As a graduate of AFTRS in 2008, she started gathering awards for her post and directing skills thereafter with many of her films screening in festivals around the world.

Most recently Widyanata was awarded 2012 Cannes Lions Young Director for her test commercial ‘War Robot’.

Widyanata offers a unique talent as a storyteller whose performance-based films also involve artfully integrated animation, post and design.

Says Tom Gibson, Film Construction’s general manager: “We’ve been searching for a director like Sandy for a while now. Her strong background in animation and VFX mixed with the truthful performance in her work makes her an attractive addition to our roster.”

For Widyanata this marks a new and exciting stage in her career. As a director dedicated to performance driven drama, she relishes the prospect of creating succinct stories in the commercial arena.

Says Widyanata: “I grew up excited by the advent of 80s fantasy and sci-fi movies. But what I loved most about it is the ability to create imaginative (and humorous) drama where the organic integration of post purely serves to enhance the story. Commercials feel like the perfect place for exploring this.”

Says Gibson: “Sandy already has quite a few achievements under her belt, and yet she throws herself into every project like it’s her first. She has a great sense of humour and energy that’s a good fit with our culture.”
