Director Julius Avery signs with Cherub Pictures

juliusavery.jpegFormer Renegade Films director Julius Avery has signed on to Cherub Pictures for representation. During his time at Renegade Avery directed TVCs for the TAC via Grey Melbourne, the Royal Australian Navy and Me Bank via GPYR Melbourne, Connex via Clemenger Harvey Edge and Worksafe via Shannons Way.  

Avery holds a Masters in Directing from the VCA Film and Television school. In 2008 his short film ‘Jerrycan’, about a boy called Nathan who risks everything after he is bullied into making a life and death decision, won the Jury Prize at the 61st Cannes Film Festival, as well as an AFI award for Best Short Fiction and the Australian Directors Guild award for Best Direction. It was also awarded an Honorable Mention at the Sundance Film Festival, and an Honorable Mention at the 59th Berlin Film Festival in the Generation Kplus competition and gold in the New York Festival advertising awards.

Last January, Avery was invited by Screen Australia to attend RADAR in Los Angeles that showcased Australia’s most promising directors as part of G’day USA. The audience comprised of 500 invited film and television industry executives, key influencers from LA’s business community and Australia Week sponsors and guests.

Michele Bennett, executive producer at Cherub Pictures says Avery is an exciting talent and his strong performance direction and background will be a perfect complement to the Cherub team.

Also represented by Cherub Pictures’ is Ben Briand Justin Kurzel, John Curran, Nash Edgerton, Andrew Dominik and Cate Shortland.
