Director Armand de Saint-Salvy unveils new spot for WorkSafe Victoria via McCann Melbourne

Director Armand de Saint-Salvy has unveiled his latest work for WorkSafe Victoria and McCann Melbourne, highlighting the Victorian Government’s new workplace laws whereby, from July, workplace manslaughter will be a jailable offence.

Produced by Exit Films, the second spot in the WorkSafe Enforcement campaign suite follows one employer whose criminal negligence leads to a tragic accident.

Says de Saint-Salvy: “Being the second spot in the campaign, a nice trust and confidence in our creative partnership had been established between the client, McCann Melbourne and myself. The client knows that I understand their brand and the creatives were wonderful collaborators who gave me freedom within the brief to express how I felt the idea should be executed. So, we came out with a piece of work that was incredibly powerful.”

In order to communicate the employers emotional point of view, de Saint-Salvy used longer lenses to capture close-ups and details, a decision, he says was made due to the way our brains process trauma; “When you go through a traumatic incident, your memory is often in flashes and bits and pieces. I used longer lenses to mix the literal eye with the emotional journey to create a new language for point of view shooting.”

De Saint-Salvy made a name for himself after his comedy spot, Doritos Manchild was selected as a finalist in Doritos Crash the Super Bowl 2015. He joined Exit Films last year, a decision influenced by two of its greatest assets: Its stable of filmmakers and capacity as a storytelling company.

Says de Saint-Salvy: “They’re all about making great work and they do not compromise. That’s the first thing I noticed when I joined; their pursuit of excellence is uncompromising. We’re a very good fit.”

De Saint-Salvy also recently helmed a campaign of commercials for Disney+ which saw him working with well-loved Australian celebrities.
