Dettol launches Facebook-led cause-related campaign asking Aussies to help Save the Children organisation via Momentum Worldwide
Dettol Australia has launched a Facebook-led national cause-related campaign, ‘Helping Hands for Health’, with the aim of raising $125,000 before year-end for the Save The Children organisation via Momentum Worldwide.
Raised funds will help improve health and sanitation for the most vulnerable children in Indonesia as part of the wider Dettol ‘Mission for Health’ program. The campaign – which is housed on the Dettol Australia Facebook page and includes in-store and on-pack promotion.
The ‘Hands for Health’ Facebook app allows users to ‘Raise a Hand’ to the cause by either taking a webcam picture of their own hand, or creating a uniquely designed hand and uploading it onto their Facebook page. For every hand uploaded, Reckitt Benckiser’s Dettol brand will donate $5 to the cause.
With almost 50,000 Indonesian children dying each year from poor hand washing practices and sanitation, Reckitt Benckiser’s germ protection category manager, David Romero said the campaign is aimed at engaging the community and raising awareness to the need, with a focus on raising as much funds as possible.
Says Romero: “Our goal was to make involvement in the Helping Hands for Health campaign as simple as possible to ensure we would generate mass awareness, which we hope will result in a huge amount of donations from Dettol Australia. Momentum Worldwide’s creation of the ‘Hands for Health’ Facebook app shows how the end user can make such a big difference with such a small investment.”
The simple act of uploading one hand will help provide 200 hand washing hygiene kits to Indonesian children. Ten hands uploaded will provide soap for one health clinic for one whole year, while 30 hands will help train 30 community health workers.
Dettol Australia will also be donating 50 cents for every Dettol hand wash product sold in all Woolworths stores nationally from 8th October – 5th November 2012.

Given the average Aussie bloke’s restroom habits, maybe they should launch a similar campaign here?
