Deja View: Jetstar’s latest effort via Big Red a copy of Spanish Estrella Damm beer commercial

Big Red, Melbourne’s latest spot for Jetstar borrows heavily from the Estrella Damm beer commercial , created by agency Villarrosas, Barcellona. The same music, similar images.
The Estrella Damm spot was launched in May and since has had over 2.7 million views on YouTube.

Well done for pushing the creative envelope to the next level Big Red Melbourne. I just wonder if anyone from Jetstar was shown the Estrella spot saying “we want to make a version of this for you” or if they passed it off as their own idea?
Reminds me of the simlarity between Donna Karan and Wool spots of years ago.
Hmmmmmm
Boat. Check.
Bonfire. Check.
Song. Check.
Credit to Villarrosas…….
Sprung!
Deja poo + Shitstar = a big mess.
And they are both crap.
I really don’t know how you can do that and lie in bed straight.
What, a travel company doesn’t think we Australian can access TVC from overseas.
Epic fail!
Damn, Spanish people are hot.
Bahahahahahaaaa.
You’re Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-busted
That is some funny shit.
I like the track though.
Who cares? It’s a nothing ad. Next.
Embarrassingly joyless and pale imitation of the original; complete with self-conscious, strategically-placed oldies to pander to the all-important Boomer dollar. I’m just left wondering what the Spanish word for ‘yawn’ would be.
SHOCKING – and I am not referring to the racehorse
Gosh,
the Jetstar spot has already been removed from youtube.
someone’s feeling guilty.
Disgraceful.
Would have been months in the making.
Why didn’t some one raise the alarm.
Expensive mistake.
Love the original though.
I just checked, the spot is gone from youtube, love to be a fly on the wall at BIG RED ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
I don’t think some clients are as concerned about plagiarism as creatives are.
Oh oh, client, client, client…
I’ve presented to clients and shown reference and they’ve said why can’t we just remake that for our brand.
6.30…I hope you then say ‘because it’s lazy, wrong, and how would you like someone doing it to your brand.’
Big Red, it’s a brilliant forgery. Do you forge money, too?
Do any of you melonheads think Ted gives a fuck what you think?
Jetstar fails where the Estrella ad succeeds in capturing that beautiful longing and uncertainty of unconfirmed love. It reminds the viewer how that felt and how it could feel again, but through much better looking and drop-dead sexy people in an exotic setting.
Jetstar is just cheese as well as a blatant copy.
In answer to the poster who asked how the creator can “lie in bed straight”, well he probably lies in bed in a comfortable semi-fetal position, underneath the finest Egyptian cotton sheets. The bed itself will probably be made from a beautiful and rare timber, and will be exceedingly large, because a regular-sized bed would be dwarfed by the sheer scale of the gorgeous master-bedroom the ad’s creator enjoys. The master-bedroom is huge and gorgeous because his entire house is. His garage is most likely of a reasonable size as well, because you wouldn’t park a luxury car out on the street. Even if you lived in a great street in a blue-ribbon suburb, which he most likely does.
Yes, the Jetstar spot is scarily similar to Estrella. And no, the person responsible most likely couldn’t give a fuck.
@ 9.56 you have just described a soulless loser without any redeeming qualities whatsoever. I hope for your sake that’s what you meant because for anyone with at least half a brain there is not one sign of true success in your copy.
Touché.
Tall Poppy Australian ad game. Who gives a rats tossbag if a scene or two was replicated? Says thee sitting behind their creative open plan desks wearing Converse’s, black plain t-shirt and multi-coloured shirt thinking they’re alternatively original. Name a brand or product, or ad campaign for that matter, which is truly original these days? Yawn!
And i’ve dealt with plenty of agencies who have presnted ideas without referencing them.
‘Tall Poppy Australian ad game.’ – 2:13
Apparently the ‘you must be this high to be a tall poppy’ bar has been lowered in recent months.

You’d give a rat’s tossbag if it was YOUR ad being ripped off.
How about Old Spice’s recent stuff you fucking sheep’s dag. No care either that you’ll reply with a few hours worth of Youtube searches showing an ad with a black guy as the lead.
Gutless suits like you will never get it.
(I assume you’re a suit – or even worse, a planner – because real creatives would never think the way you do.)
Fuck off.
@6:56
“…sheep’s dag”? NZ creative, you?
You can watch the Jetstar TVCs here.

I’d imagine The Triangles are pretty pleased that BigRed decided to use the same music track for Jetstar that the Spaniards did for the beer.
Bloody bravo I say.
Level Two Music supplied the track for Estrella Dramm and no doubt for Jetstar. Maybe it’s time clients created music they own rather than the world has access too.
Oooh naughty boy Karl, double booking your music tracks. Imagine a publisher doing something like that……
