Curious director Syd Garon releases Wavetwisters film online via Sundance

Curious Film director Syd Garon’s film Wavetwisters is being re-released online by the Sundance Institute’s Artist Service program, which has partnered with iTunes, Amazon, YouTube, Hulu, Sony Entertainment Network and Netflix to distribute and promote the film.

Now available on the Artist Service program to rent, download or stream online, Wavetwisters is an eye-popping, hip-hop-meets-Hanna-Barbera, animated adventure synched skratch for skratch with DJ QBert’s turntable masterpiece of the same name.

Each track of Q-Bert’s original album was designed to provide the audio framework for another chapter in this sci-fi kung-fu epic. The music, sound effects and even the dialogue has been accounted for and seamlessly integrated into QBert’s original musical compositions.

The film gives visual expression to Q-Bert’s narrative while pioneering the concept of visual skratching; sampling from a wide variety of techniques (from traditional cell animation to 3D to live action to photo collage).

Says Garon: “Wavetwisters catapults the bar on the correspondence between sound and image – taking the Fantasia concept to the next, dizzying level. When the music says, ‘Jump!’ the animation asks, ‘How high?’.”

Curious Film executive producer Peter Grasse is excited about Garon’s inclusion in the Sundance Institute distribution line up.

In addition, to make it easier for audiences to find Sundance Institute films, the online film guide and mobile app for the 2013 Sundance Film Festival includes a new feature from GoWatchIt.com which creates a universal ‘queue’ so fans can be notified as soon as films they are interested in become available in the marketplace.
