Independent wine label Foreign Friends and creatives Tyler Russell (left) and Crystal Davis (right) have taken out Best of Show at the 2024 Brisbane Advertising and Design Club Awards for their Product Packaging – Range at the awards held on Saturday night.

Queensland Health was named Client of the Year, with the award presented by April Thomas and Justin Senescal from Seneworth Legal Partners.

Foreign Friends is inspiring more women to make their mark in the wine-making industry and challenge stereotypes.

“The greatest wines of my memory I have deliberately consumed in the company of my fellow men. For I do not believe that women have the character or mental outlook to appreciate rare & beautiful wine.” – Margan, Editor Daily Telegraph, 1969.

Enter Foreign Friends, an emerging all-female winemaking team with a design challenging industry standards and inviting consumer connection through the product.

In designing their unique stamp labels, Foreign Friends tackled three key challenges: disrupt perceived value, invite collaboration, and inspire women.

Beyond wine, the labels open a platform with an interactive canvas that’s an extension of brand language and values. Famously collectible for their charm, each stamp label uses design elements with quiet confidence to invite, indicate quality, and pay tribute to incredible women.

Foreign Friends hopes to evoke a more inclusive wine culture, inspiring women in wine, the packaging more than just a label, but a device to invite and connect.

BCM’s Avon Ang (pictured above), strategist and insights analyst, was also awarded the first Otis Recruitment Rising Star Award.

The 2024 BADC Awards were held at the spectacular new The Star Brisbane. The event was a celebration of the region’s top creative talent, showcasing the best in advertising and design work from the past year. The evening was expertly emceed by Australian actor and Brisbane’s own Gyton Grantley.

This year’s awards theme by Khemistry celebrated Brisbane’s creative community doing 50 Years Of Whatever It Takes – to nail a brief; meet a deadline; give their all; but above all, to inspire excellence and create award-winning work.

Justine Armour, one of Brisbane’s most successful creative exports, chaired the judging panels for the 2024 BADC Awards. In 2023 Justine joined FIG New York as partner and chief creative officer. As Brisbane’s creative community celebrated BADC’s golden jubilee, Justine’s involvement set the stage for an extraordinary year of recognition and creative excellence.

“The judges were delighted to see work coming out of Brisbane which competes with the best national and global work. We were inspired and congratulate all the finalists and winners,” Armour said.

A Hall of Fame induction was made on the night honouring Jamhouse Creative owner Garry Smith, the widely respected music and advertising industry identity and former BADC president. Smith’s experience as a composer, producer, arranger, writer and director spans nearly four decades.

BADC president Stuart Myerscough said: “The quality of world-class work once again on display in this year’s awards is truly inspiring and is a real testament to the health of Brisbane’s creative community. Our judging panel had an extremely difficult job to do, and we congratulate all the medallists and finalists on their truly outstanding creative work in what was a stellar year.

“In celebrating our 50th year it was fantastic to look back on five decades of Queensland creative achievement and celebrate its success. We’re also proud to unveil our new website from Niche Studio which showcases all this amazing work.”

Independent production agency Light + Shade once again was sponsor of the fabulous After Party.
