Creative Sydney unveils program structure

Screen shot 2010-05-11 at 12.26.17 PM.pngCreative Sydney, an eclectic program of events that brings local and global leaders together to explore Sydney’s creative potential during Vivid Sydney festival, has announced its program structure and some of its impressive talent line up.

The program will be held over 10 days from June 4 – 13 with a program that boasts an inspiring series of professional development events and wide-ranging entertainment for the public, including discussions, presentations and performances.

The aim is to explore and demonstrate Sydney’s potential as a global hub of creativity and to celebrate diverse creative talents.

Key elements to the Creative Sydney program include: 

Creative Futures: involves 15 presentations in five different sessions, on the future of the

creative industries. Visitors can rsvp for one or all of the sessions. A major highlight will be the ‘Network and Clusters’ presentation that will reveal where creative communities work and live in Sydney using bespoke GPS-based research. (Saturday June 5)

Sydney Sessions: six one-off nighttime performances produced by remarkable mixes of creative disciplines. Participants include, Even Books, Parades, Cameras, Dorkbot, Imperial Panda and lots more. (Monday June 7 – Saturday June 12)

Creative Connections: a day for focused networking and an opportunity to connect with the organisations and support structures that help creative people and businesses reach their full potential. A key highlight on this day is The Big Debate “Is Sydney falling behind or leading the way?” (Saturday June 12)

Panel discussions: five thought-provoking evening sessions covering Creative For a Cause; Local Talent/Global Market; Creative/Commercial; The New Niche and Making it Happen.

Block Party: Sydney’s best performers will host a huge, free street party and what is planned to be the world’s biggest “distributed disco” turning the Circular Quay into a dance floor. (Sunday June 13)

Some of the talented participants include, Chris Ying from McSweeney’s, Ute Noll, respected German photography curator, Australian Youth Orchestra, Hopscotch Films, The Glue Society, Romance Was Born, Imperial Panda, Finders Keepers, Cool Hunter, Parades, Modular Records, Monster Children, and co-founder of Dinosaur Design Liane Rossler to name a few.

“Our program offers something for everybody, from anyone who wants to feel inspired, delight in cross- disciplinary fun, collaborate and connect with peers across the creative spectrum, or learn from the experience of the people who drive creative culture,” said Creative Sydney’s director Jess Scully.

“We are thrilled to be able to unveil the first round of exceptional creatives participating in our 2010 program, and look forward to introducing our audience to many more creative talents and entrepreneurs in the next few weeks as we put the finishing touches on our line-up,” Jess Scully said.

Creative Sydney is part of Vivid Sydney (27 May – 21 June), the city’s annual festival of light, music and ideas, and the largest festival of its kind in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere.

Last year was Creative Sydney’s inaugural year, and the program attracted around 9,000 people, this year Creative Sydney expects to engage with over 15,000 creators and fans.
