Creative strategist Zac Martin publishes free guide on ‘How to Freelance in Advertising’
Melbourne creative strategist Zac Martin has today launched a free guide ‘How To Freelance In Advertising‘.
Says Martin: “I’m a practical planner so I wrote a very practical guide. When you’re thinking about taking the leap the last thing on your mind should be how to charge GST or what to expect in a contract. But the biggest challenge is always working out how much to charge. It’s a taboo topic, so I’ve tried to shed some light on it.”
Martin has been freelancing for a year and a half in some of Australia’s biggest and smallest agencies.
Says Martin: “This is the guide I wish someone had written 18 months ago when I started freelancing. It’s 11,000 words with my advice, truths and tools to getting started and not being homeless. Hopefully some my battle scars help you avoid getting your own.”

Apart from the numerous spelling mistakes, surely no one hires this guy after admitting he watched a couple of focus groups and then was able to run his own?
Way to undersell the discipline of planning.
@seriously?
This guy has spent his own free time to put this together. And here you are being a douche. You are one miserable cow
Heaven forbid someone takes the ego and elitism out of Planning.
Zac’s a legend and a lot of people in the industry know this.
@ Seriously, please have the guts to put your name to your comment.
Please consider the amount of time this person put into writing this, and also consider what you have said. Essentially you are a cyber bully. No wonder mental health is such an issue in our industry with people being shot down over giving it a go. You are a bully and if you can not put your name to such comments, don’t comment at all.
@Seriously, it was this comment from you, of all the filth and scum that comes through on the comments on this blog, that was the impetus for this, my first-ever comment here on CB, after 2 years of biting my tongue and holding my hand. What a sad sad person you’d have to be to make a comment like that. I don’t know Zac Martin, but he’s obviously been pretty genuine, helpful and considerate in putting this doc together. Seriously, what compels you to make comments like that? “Numerous spelling mistakes”, WTF?! This totally amounts to cyber-bullying.
Thank you. This is super helpful and super informative.
I can’t wait to see @seriously?’s 11,000 words on how to be a massive dickhead. But judging by what I get from the teaser above, it’ll be a thrilling read.
For taking the time to write this and share it.
As for @seriously, you are one seriously unhappy person, I hope you feel better about yourself soon.
Thank you so much Zac for your time writing this, much appreciated. Super helpful for this period of time!!
