Creative collective Robot Fights Monster launches in Melbourne

Robot Fights Monster, founded by producers Graham Pryor and Kade Robertson, is reshaping the landscape for directors and creatives with a transparent, collaborative approach.

Specialising in animation with a strong emphasis on character-driven storytelling and humour, Robot Fights Monster brings projects to life through bold visuals and emotionally resonant narratives. This creative approach is at the heart of the studio’s ethos—prioritising ideas, characters and tone to deliver animation that feels both elevated and entertaining.

“Kade and I were each working individually with some super talented directors,” says Pryor. “We didn’t set out to start a business, but we realised chatting over lunch one day that we both felt really strongly about heroing the amazing talent in Australia and New Zealand. We wanted to make sure the weird and wonderful stuff being created here was seen on a global stage. So we tossed around the idea of a business model prioritising the work, and the people who are actually doing that creative work. We keep overheads low, share the profit with the directors,  and ensure that they get the voice they deserve. And we make sure that more of the budget ends up on screen.”

Robot Fights Monster operates with a small roster of five directors: Studio Showoff, Gibbon, Haein and Paul, Sarah Litzenberger and Jeremy Mansford. The group share a strong rapport and a history of collaboration, encouraging a flexible and supportive working environment, where directors can step into various supporting roles on each other’s projects.

“We’re super stoked to be part of the Robot Fights Monster crew,” say directors Haein and Paul. “Graham and Kade have brought together an incredible lineup of visionary directors, and we’re genuinely honoured to be among them. Big love to those two legends for backing us and giving us the space to do what we do best.”

“We’re really excited to be working with such cool directors; they all have such amazing, really unique styles,” shares Robertson. “We think that the key to success for any project is excellent work, and we want to create an environment where our team has what they need to excel.”

With a focus on collaboration, transparency, and championing the creative, Robot Fights Monster is challenging industry norms and setting a new standard for creative partnership.
