Collaboration, Possibility + Curiosity: Christian Finucane chats with Nick Garrett on latest episode of The Creative Relay

The latest episode of The Creative Relay has been released with The Core Agency’s Christian Finucane talking to Nick Garrett, global leader marketing and commerce, Deloitte Digital.

It’s the first episode of the popular creative podcast to feature a guest from the account service side of the industry.  It’s a choice that was deliberately made to showcase the power of collaboration, according to Finucane (above right): “Nick has always had an incredible energy for great creative work. So I wanted to really understand what drove his passion for it, and how he saw his role in creating some of Australia’s most iconic work.”

For Garrett (above left), his attitude stems from his first job in Australia in the 1990’s, working alongside Finucane and his writing partner Jon Skinner on Playstation at TBWA: “It was a place where you weren’t defined by your moniker. You were all just a team with the one job – to create great work.”

The expansive conversation goes on to discuss the subtle nuances of working in the UK, Australia and the US, as well as the changing shape of the industry and the players within it.

For host Paul Dunne, the conversation gave an interesting perspective on time, and how an abundance – or lack of it – can work to your advantage in the creation of breakthrough work: “It was fascinating to hear Nick and Christian discuss having the time to really nurture ideas, but then in the next breath talk about the Cannes-winning opportunity of having just two hours to get an idea up and out there in the world.”

Dan Higson, the podcast producer at Smith and Western, the latest episode further expands the definition of creativity: “Nick reminds us that advertising’s a creative business, and we’re all here because of it.”
