Clemenger Group set to return to the heart of Melbourne in 2024

Clemenger Group will be returning to Melbourne CBD in 2024, after signing an agreement to lease the new workspace being developed above the iconic David Jones building at Bourke Street Mall.
The historic move will see all Melbourne-based operating companies at 474 St Kilda Rd and Como Tower relocate to the beautiful, heritage-style building in the centre of Melbourne’s business district.
This includes Clemenger BBDO, CHEP Network, Creative Activation, Redhanded, Porter Novelli, GRACosway, Quantum, Hall & Partners, LEVO, eg+ and Traffik. Sister companies under the Omnicom Media Group umbrella (including OMD, PHD and Hearts & Science) will also be based at the new workspace.
The workspace will cater for up to 900 people from these operating companies in 2024.
The 299 Bourke Street building (adjoining Little Collins St) was constructed in 1929 and its upper levels are now being transformed into a workspace for the future, without losing any of its historic character or charm.
Says Les Timar CEO, Clemenger Group: “This workspace will nurture creativity and create even stronger collaboration across the Clemenger Group, as we define the future of our work in a new era of technology, sustainability and flexibility.
“It will offer Clemenger Group a new-age environment for our companies to work together and provide the most effective solutions for our clients, while allowing our people to create best-in-class capabilities.”
“It will also create a true sense of community for our people, while enabling each of our operating companies to foster their own cultures in this new workspace.”
The new loft-style workspace will be far from a traditional CBD office, with high ceilings and various entertaining areas for clients and a rooftop terrace giving us a unique perspective of the CBD.
The offices are designed by architectural firm Bates Smart – the same firm that helped create Clemenger Group’s exceptional workspace at The Pier in Walsh Bay, Sydney.
Says Robert Morgan, chairman, Clemenger Group: “We are excited to return to the heart of Melbourne – the home of Clemenger. It was in the CBD where our founders opened John Clemenger Advertising in 1946, in the basement of a building in Bourke Street.
“We are equally proud to be at the forefront of revitalising Melbourne’s business landscape after the pandemic, becoming the only major marketing and communication company to reside in the city.
“Clemenger Group has served the Melbourne community for more than 75 years and we are delighted to help bring the city back to life and back to the Melbourne that we all know and love.”

This is one of the reasons I really like Clens. What a clever, creative, and financially astute move
And don’t forget to mention the most important part: those beatiful cost savings!
Greaaaaaaat!
At a time when everyone is wanting more flexibility, no one wants to be travelling into the CBD each day and the future of big, marque offices looks dead in the water……. here are Clems partying like it’s 1999
Shame to see the old office go – it had a lot of character. At the same time, CBD is actually way more convenient to commute to and has lots more interesting stuff around.
Chapel Street Paris end and St Kilda Rd are definitely lacking vibe right now. Feels like a smart move.
Said no one ever.
When the world WFH, you zag!
I don’t think you are very astute based on that comment.
Is boring as hell and a pain in the bum to get to for the majority of people.
I’d much prefer a CBD office ta. Plus, Im sure a ‘hybrid’ WFH offering is part of the deal at Clemmenger no? Aint that the norm for everyone now?
Just wondering if Michael Clemenger is a relative cause I used to work with him.
Guys why the sudden departure?!
My my how adorable of you to have thought that this endless flexibility was here to stay. Yes flex will be around in some form for good, but even the massive tech co’s (google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta etc) are mandating office days. If people are going to be in, they sure as hell will want stunning offices with excellent surrounds
