Clemenger BBDO CCO Jim Curtis departs for EVP, Global Executive CD role at McCann New York
Campaign Brief can reveal that Clemenger BBDO chief creative officer Jim Curtis has departed the agency for the EVP, Global Creative Director role at McCann New York.
Curtis joined Clemenger BBDO in June 2020 from an awarded five year stint at Droga5 New York, and CB understands he is back in the States for family reasons.
Curtis told CB: “I couldn’t be more thankful to Clemenger for the support provided to me over the past three and a half years while working with world class talent and Australia’s most iconic brands. I look forward to watching Dani and the team from afar enjoy all the success to come.”
Work created under his leadership at Clems include the Cannes Lion/D&AD winning VB Solar Exchange and FightMND campaigns, and most recently Carlton Dry and Carlton Draught.
Notable work created by Curtis at Droga5 included several mini-series for Mailchimp, a documentary with Gotham Chopra for Under Armour, and selling Australia to the world under the guise of a Crocodile Dundee reboot.
Prior to Droga5, Curtis had creative stints in Australia at BMF, DDB and The Leap Agency.
His work has been awarded at all major international shows, including Titanium at Cannes, yellow pencils at D&AD and gold at the Effies, One Show, Sirens, AWARD and Webby awards. He is also the recipient of the first-ever Logie for Most Popular Television Commercial.
When contacted, Dani Bassil, CEO Clemenger BBDO told CB: “Jim has resigned from Clemenger BBDO, to return to the US for family reasons. I want to thank Jim for his outstanding contribution to the agency over the last 3.5 years, and I wish him all the very best in the future.
“We are actively recruiting to fill the CCO position and will announce Jim’s replacement imminently.”

Go Jim!
JIM
Just observing from the sidelines, I think Clemenger’s glory days were about a decade ago. Under Ant Keogh’s leadership they produced some classic work. Interestingly the Monkeys have not yet produced work of a similar standard since he arrived there.
This is an article about a great man doing great man things. Nothing to do with other people and agencies. Find a different soap box champ.
Yes, they have…
… nobody asked for
Good luck Jim, you deserve the best and McCann are lucky.
So many experienced, talented and knowledgeable people have gone from Clems this year for one reason or another. What is management up to one wonders.
Firstly, Jim. Congratulations, don’t know you but epic.
Secondly @Awful Truth I work at a local Indie and we have had 2 seperate clients comment on the great work The Monkeys are doing – Macpac, Toyota and Telstra, 3 recent examples of great work we love and regularly praise their approach and how they go about it. I used to work with Macca, Ant and Mikey. They are quality humans doing quality work. Considering you are hiding behind a cryptic handle, I can only assume that you are not in the arena at all. Have some respect for those that are.
Are you high?
First Dan Andrews, now this…
Errr, the Monkeys don’t do Toyota
And stop claiming credit by association. Your role at Clems was menial at best.
So an EVP CD is the equivalent of a CCO?
@confusing job titles. It’s not confusing. It’s just different countries use different titles. Look into it.
From our days back at DDB you could always tell that Jimbob would be the man.
Now that he is, ‘congrats mate’, and I hope you remember me…I need some work!! 😉
Honestly hope that the agency uses these big departures as an opportunity to reinvent themselves. Would love to see them take in some more diverse and out there thinkers, especially up the top end. Spice up them creative juices team red <3
Bug Jum Bug Jum Bug Jum
Meteoric Rise. Congrats mate.
Meteoric rise is surely on the ad lingo bingo card.
But meteors fall. Famously. Jim does not fall.
Congrats Jim! Do us proud on the big stage 🇺🇸
Lol – I don’t think Clems has an issue with diversity mate. It’s their entire schtick.
This is true, for low-to mid tier employees. Not management.
