CB Exclusive: GPY&R, Melbourne launches AFL ‘Game Signatures’, a collection of autographs created from player GPS tracking data
As part of the “This is Greatness” campaign for the 2011 Toyota AFL Finals Series, GPY&R Melbourne is launching ‘Game Signatures’, a collection of unique autographs created from player GPS tracking data.
During the 4 week AFL Finals Series, players will wear GPS trackers during the game, creating ‘signatures’ as they play. The most heroic performances will then be translated into one off prints. They will be displayed throughout the finals, culminating in the ultimate ‘Game Signature’ of the Grand Final’s Norm Smith Medalist. All signatures will be auctioned to benefit Ladder, the AFL charity supporting youth homelessness, where fans will be given the chance to bid for their hero’s Game Signature.
Week Two of the 2011 Toyota AFL Finals Series continues tonight (Friday 16th September) with Hawthorn taking on the Sydney Swans in the first Semi Final at the MCG.

How shall I say it?! “This is Greatness”! I love it.
Nice little idea.
Great idea.
Hell yes. That’s a freak’n awesome idea.
You’ll smash it with this one Patts boys.
That is awesome! I’ll definitely be bidding on one of those!
Great treatment!
Like this. Dane Swan’s ‘autograph’ is going to look incredible.
Just a lazy 23km for Juddy. Freak.
Love the idea though guys. Three votes.
Simple, clever, gold. Well done Patts Melb.
Love it!
I liked the greatness campaign anyway, but this steps it right up. A properly interactive, new media, digital bla bla idea. Do it well and it will bring you metal.
that’s awesome – nice one bloodfart!
I don’t usually say nice things about work on this blog, but I think this is a genuinely fresh idea. Well done Patts.
wish I’d thought of that.
Is this a finalist at MADC?
There haven’t been many ideas I’m jealous of this year but this is a cracker. Well done lads. Nice work Northo.
That’s a cracker. Well done, Ev.
Inventive.
The “I’d like one of those” factor.
New.
Inspiring and worthy.
Best thing I’ve seen on this turgid little blog in ages.
Salute.
PLease, please, please do one for Chapmans game last week? He is a dead set legend, and will get the Cats another cup in 3 weeks!!!
Awesome idea also.
Good one
Juddy’s signature will look a lot different if they ever meet the Pies in September. Enjoy it now Carlton fans, it will be Dane Swan’s signature that you are looking at Monday after the Grand Final!
It’s a nice idea by the way, well done Patts boys, I will order one if you make them available to buy.
Don’t just auction them to some rich corporate fucker, put them on the AFL website so we can all have one.
I’d pay $100 for a Juddy signature nicely framed, no problem. Put it on my shelf in stead of those worthless MADC trophies that are getting dusty.
Sweet idea!
How do I get the Judd one??
Great stuff
LOVE IT!!!!!
Nice work guys.
Do a Mark Harvey one: a single straight line going West to East.
This is a cracker. Well done boys and girls.
Bloody nice work. I want one for an Essendon player.
If Judd gets knocked out in the first five minutes I’ll buy his too!
I must say, this is super-campaignable for like, forever.
Nice work fellas.
Can’t wait to see my Norm Smith medal winning signature later this year. Go Cats!
Build a new shelf.
Any apply your thoughts to a game you give a shit about Ev & Northam.
If this was a RWC campaign, it would be the best piece so far.
See? When good work gets put on this blog, people are unanimous in their positive comments…
Fucking awesome.
Amazing idea.
And they’ll pick up as well as making money for an excellent cause.
Can’t argue with that.
Oh, and I’d love to see Judds face before the game when you ask him to wear this bra for the game.
That’d be greatness.
Top work boys.
The pangs of jealousy are filling my Friday afternoon, post-pub gut.
It’s a good idea.. but come on guys. That’s enough commenting on your own stuff. It’s a dead give-away when the comments come in at 1 or 2 minute intervals. You can tell it’s the same person, hammering away at their keyboard, wildly filling the thread with positivity.
Just stand back and let everyone else decide.. you know, like in the real world.
d
Love it. Great original idea, great execution, great cause.
This will be the next Support Scent, actually even better because it will work and make money.
Thanks, I’ve had a shit week in the ad game and was just about to say this was all too hard.
ice to see someone can get amazing original ideas out into the world.
Maybe I will turn up again on Monday, Oh wait, I don’t work at Patts. bugger.
I don’t suppose that the comments coming in every couple of minutes has anything to do with the EDM reaching everyone at the same time and the comments trickling out at the speed the moderater moderates? “Everyone else said” you’re a fool.
Hey “Get Real”.. the moderator doesn’t sit there moderating all day in one minute intervals. Those are the times the messages are posted.
You better get back to posting positive comments. There hasn’t been one for 2 MINUTES!
So fake. No way a GPS tracker produced output like that.
yes it can
Fantastic idea. Like the execution to. Classy, not like most of the bad footy merch (which I still by anyway). I’ll be lining up for a game signature if they do Adam Goodes. GO SWANNIES!
Nice. Nice. Not THRILLING. But nice.
and the ‘real’ comments begin..
It better than nice, it’s one of the best ideas on this blog, this year. Well done Patts.
I would rather see/read about stuff like this than the latest beer-wank any day of the week.
Well done guys – this is fantastic.
Seriously Lynchy; how many of these comments are from Patts? Clearly building a case to get their client to do more stuff like this.
brilliant – so long as they all don’t end up looking like kiddy scribbles
Nice work Patts.
Pity you stole the idea from another agency.
Hope those awards feel real satisfying boys.
Squint at it – more proof Judd is a big pussy.
Im not from Patts and I read this far down he blog thread to find out if other people thought this idea was fantastic, like I did.
Seems like even with all the haters trying to bring work down, a really really good idea always gets overwhelmingly positive comment.
Nice to see that the industry know what a good idea is when one finally get mad, and knows hoe to get behind it.
Hat off to those who made this, it takes a lot to get clients to do anything half decent these days, this is a coup. Well done also to the suits, some A-grade idea peddling done on this one.
this makes things a little awkward.
http://cargocollective.com/garretfitzgerald#1706486/THE-ART-OF-FOOTY
That’s exactly the same. Eh, awkward!
Simple and very nice
exact same idea boys.
@1.20pm
That link can’t be accessed now, been ‘turned off’.
Whoever did it though, great idea.
So the idea was already on the internet?
By another Aussie creative.
It’d be unfair to cast aspersions, but it does change the flavour of things…
A lesson for students & juniors.
We all have great ideas in the fiction section of our folio that someone else made famous.
The skill is in getting ideas made. That is the game.
Suck it up, grow up and get on with making your next idea a reality.
Truth is, you were beaten to the punch.
Bad luck, move on.
don’t care
@11:26.
Maybe he has to suck it up & move on, but it doesn’t change the fact that the idea is his in the first place.
So Garret, hats off!
I think you mean “Beaten to the blog”.
Carlton Draught was my idea. And Salad Plate. Come to think of it Guiness Surfer, Sony Balls and the famous VW Polo ‘Cops’ print. They were all my ideas and they were all stolen.
Ok, enough of the negative stuff.
Two agencies working independently on same idea. It happens, let’s move on.
Cheers, Paul
I do find it strange that the image used by CB ^ up there is the same image from the Art of Footy link that @sherlock posted. What’s going on there?!
Great idea anyway.
so creammy
