Care Aware launches The Impossible Orchestra at Art Centre Melbourne, Hamer Hall on Sat 27 Oct 5pm – Sun 28 Oct 5pm via McCann Melbourne
UPDATED TO INCLUDE SUPPORT MESSAGE FROM PRIME MINISTER, JULIA GILLARD.
After winning two silver trophies for film at the recent Spikes Asia awards, McCann Melbourne’s Care Aware campaign for the Federal Government is set to enter its second phase with The Impossible Orchestra.
The Impossible Orchestra is playing at Art Centre Melbourne, Hamer Hall from Saturday 27 October at 5pm to Sunday 28 October at 5pm.
Broken up into eight three-hour sittings of 2,000 seats across the 24-hour period, tickets are free but registration is essential. Book here or call 1300 182 183.
The concert will be broadcast online at the campaign website.
The Impossible Orchestra is a world-first 24-hour free orchestral concert at Melbourne’s prestigious Hamer Hall. Over 270 musicians from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Australian National Academy of Music and orchestras around the globe are coming together to play for a full 24 hours, to raise awareness for Australia’s 2.6 million unpaid family carers. The event is free and will be broadcast live online for a national audience.
Recognising the performers will need a break over the 24-hour period, high-profile Australians including the likes of Charlie Pickering and Josh Thomas will step in to help – providing respite and practicing their own musical talents. Australian television icon Sean Micallef will act as understudy conductor.
Says John Mescall, McCann executive creative director: “It’s got over 200 of Australia’s best classical musicians. The likes of Shaun Micallef, Charlie Pickering and Josh Thomas being let loose on it. A first-class venue with amazing acoustics and seats that don’t hurt your bum. On a Melbourne weekend where not much else is happening. All in support of a brilliant cause. And tickets are free. By all rights, this shouldn’t be a tough sell.”
Says The Hon. Senator Jan McLucas, parliamentary secretary for disabilities and carers: “The Care Aware campaign is part of the Australian Government’s commitment to its National Carer Strategy. We are working to raise awareness of the extraordinary contribution Australia’s unpaid family carers make to their community and society every day.”
