Gangster makes hand sanitation criminally cool in Sanitation Stations’ new campaign via Ozlocal

Veteran marketing agency OzLocal has launched an edgy digital ad campaign designed to turn the conventional treatment of hand sanitation on its head and ensure consumer safety remains high on the national agenda.

The agency has commissioned Screentide to take charge of the three-part Keep Your Hands Clean campaign, which uses tropes of British gangster cinema to present hand hygiene in a fresh and exciting way.

The campaign showcases Sanitation Stations, a product that is so effective at cleaning bacteria that criminals recommend it for avoiding leaving traces of their crimes.

Says David Eggert, managing director, OzLocal: “As we navigate these surreal times, we’ve decided to use humour as a tool to ignite a national conversation on safe and effective hand washing.”

The Keep Your Hands Clean campaign features one of Australia’s most iconic gangster actors and will run nationally through digital and social platforms YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

In the early days of the pandemic last year, OzLocal’s leadership knew something big was brewing. After more than 20 years in the industry, the Sydney-based agency was determined to stay afloat with local team and client database intact. So it hatched a national business model within a week and Sanitation Station was born.

Says Eggert: “Innovation is in our DNA. But even by our standards, going into hand sanitation stations as a marketing agency was the ultimate pivot.

“Thanks to Woolworths and other iconic brands who believed in the quality and stylish look of our product from the beginning, Sanitation Stations moved quickly from start up status to a thriving business. Our success has surprised us all.”

To date, thousands of units have been dispensed across the country to shopping centres, supermarkets, airports, schools, sporting clubs, public venues and brands such as Dan Murphy’s, Aldi and R.M. Williams.
