After three years of business out of Sydney, during which branding and design consultancy UNKL opened a tiny brewery in Townsville, launched a socially conscious deodorant in a tube in Amsterdam and branded 34 start-ups, UNKL wondered: what next?
So UNKL did some focus groups and online research, collected some big data, had a good stretch, consulted some dear friends, talked to a few wombats and discovered some insights that unlocked some insightful discoveries.
Says Will Miles, co-founder, UNKL: “Turns out our philosophy; Strong And Beautiful Brands Are The Future, not only resonates in Surry Hills but also with human beings and brands elsewhere in the world. Needless to say, we’re super excited for a bright future in 2020 and beyond, now we know we can work in Daggar Hills, Kalumburu, Venice, Marlow, Gothenburg, Austin, Charters Towers and even Tilburg. Yeah, you might have to look that place up.
“The only question was: where will our second studio be located? Is there a place to help us maximise this global outpouring of love for Strong And Beautiful Brands and help us triangulate our attack on the wide world of branding? The answer was Perth, Western Australia, of course.”
UNKL has set up shop in Perth due to the huge amount of exciting opportunities on the West Coast.
WA is currently transforming into one of the most progressive and forward-looking states of Australia with many brands about to re-invent themselves to be future proof.
Adds Pim van Nunen, co-founder, UNKL: “We like to think we can help out. Coincidentally Perth is where Will’s in-laws (and future babysitters of his five kids) live.”
Van Nunen and Miles and managing director Jane Redfern will oversee both Perth and Sydney studios.
