screenshot-two.jpgCB Exclusive – The AFL season has commenced with the reigning premiers Collingwood Football Club set to release one of the biggest commercials in Australian history.

Director Andrew Coyle from Melbourne based production company Scene On took this sixty second visual spectacular and brought together an ensemble of celebrities, players and over 3,500 extras for one big commercial.

Shot over two days, Collingwood’s ‘March to October’ commercial depicts the loyal Collingwood supporters marching side by side to the MCG. The shoot was then broadcasted live over every commercial news station, further enhancing the hype of the commercial.

“Despite the size of the shoot, we wanted to stay faithful to the average supporter,” says Coyle. “The commercial is really a story that starts in the suburbs and builds to something that is amazing. We have celebrities and players mixed in with the crowd; you have to watch it several times to even start to pick out all the faces hidden in with the supporters”.

The response to the commercial has been overwhelming, and is set to begin screening nationally on television (Channel 10 at 7.30pm) and in cinemas on Saturday. The release is a big moment for the supporters who waited for hours to be involved. Working closely with Mick Russell from agency Spike Creative, Coyle took the opportunity to direct something unique.

“This is where Australian advertising needs to be. Not only does the commercial look amazing, it directly involves thousands of the people that Collingwood are targeting,” explains Coyle. “We had well over 3500 people taking part. Straight away, that means that there will be thousands of people spreading the commercial virally to their family and friends, watching and re-watching to pick out familiar faces. This is integrated marketing at its finest”.

To view the commercial, visit the Scene On website after 7.30pm on Saturday.
