Betting brand Rivalry joins PM election fight with boxing game via Bear Meets Eagle On Fire
Rivalry, an esports and sports betting brand, is introducing itself to the Australian market by launching PM Fighter, an 8-bit arcade inspired boxing game that runs in the lead up to the election, developed by Bear Meets Eagle On Fire.
Aussies will now have the chance to ‘vote with their fists’ in a game that pits Scomo vs Albo in the boxing ring, duking it out until one is KO’d.
Players can box as either candidate and share their fighting results after or take a punt on the outcome of the real election itself, on Rivalry’s homepage.
Says Steven Salz, co-founder and CEO of Rivalry: “We are very excited to bring Rivalry to customers in Australia. An election campaign can feel a bit like a boxing match, with both sides going at it until there’s only one left standing. That’s why we decided to make PM Fighter and give Aussies an entertaining way to get behind their favourite politician.”
Says Micah Walker, founder and chief creative officer of BMEOF: “An election is certainly a fun place to introduce a brand intent on doing things differently. So hopefully people with have a punch and a laugh and maybe even punt on the real thing after at Rivalry.com. It’s been a fun project and a big shout out to our friends at T&DA, who’ve really helped a crazy idea come to fruition.”

love the fact we can bet on the election, go democracy
Fun.
GOAT status
this is amazing… but would be more amazing-er if it actually counted as your vote.
This would be even better if we could actually punch these two middling no-hopers for being so terrible.
Love this. Just wish you could do Fatalities at the end.
Nice idea but surely this is gambling advertising that appeals to children. Rivalry should have their licence pulled?
Hats off.
This needs an arcade version in the sports bar at Northies.
Creative looks fun. What it says about the state of our political culture – that it is just another ‘horse race’ – is a separate question.
I can’t see where the gambling is?
By your logic, all political campaigns need to be pulled.
Brilliant.
Well done legends.
New Zealand did it first sorry guys.

Looks like these guys beat the kiwi’s to the punch …maybe everyone was playing a lot of video games during 2020 lockdown

Love how Bear meets Eagle On Fire seem to be able to just to the joke jobs but still get paid. Must be nice to not really have to think hard about an issue, and just treat everything as a gag. But then with a name like that, what do you expect.

I remember playing this back then. Was huge.
Fun campaign! reminds me of a game they did for the UK election. They reskinned Street Fighter.
They’re doing some of the best work in the country. Consistently. Pay attention.
Changed my mind.
It’s crap.
@pretend Old CD Guy
How very dare you.
Oooh @pretend Old CD Guy you are so naughty.
great – the country that has some of the highest rates of domestic violence, coward punches and they think this is a good idea.
It’s ok mate, it’s only advertising.
I mean Bear have done substantial campaigns for Optus, Rollin, Wisr & Stake just off the top of my head. Maybe if you or your agency could remember what saying the word ‘No’ to a client was like you wouldn’t be in the comments trying to poke holes in this fun bit of work.
Um @ummmm, it’s not a political ad. It’s advertising for a gambling brand. That’s why it has the 18+ and gamble responsibly messages.
You must be absolutely miserable.
If you’re good enough, attempt to get a job there, you might have some fun
It’s an ad for an ick client/category that any agency with purpose and ethics should avoid.
Worse, it reduces political discourse down to a cliché of puerile conflict – the exact framing that has made democratic systems and processes unable to confront climate change etc.
To summarise – promotes a category society doesn’t need, by framing politics in a way that fails society.
This may be a fun idea, it may be clever creative – but it’s really, really bad work.
This game is obviously responsible for everything wrong in Australia today, politics, the environment, chocolate bars getting smaller, and is going to destroy society as we know it. How do those responsible sleep at night? Shame on you.
Advertising’s raison d’etre has always been to sell things that society doesn’t need.
Agree. Mic drop. Well put.
For gawd’s sake.
Two years stuck in a pandemic broom cupboard and here we are. 80% of commenters need to take deep breaths, get some sunshine and quit doom-scrolling for negatives I suggest.
Client aside, the work is deserving of praise. Production-wise the flaming eagles have managed to sell in something that will drive traffic to the site in question by the truckload. It made you look. So job already done. Even if the ‘said-site’ is questionable as you suggest – it’s still an unquestionably fun bit of fiction with a couple of cartoon characters having some pixelated ‘pow’. The kind of ‘pow’ that’s less violent than what the kid on the bus next to you with Fortnite is playing.
Nicely done I say – and love the little asides of the characters. It’s those details that make it spesh. Too little stuff we do these days goes out the door without this kind of thought in it.
