Bestads Best of the Week: Olga Basha ‘New Jeans’

Each week Bestads showcases standout global advertising work as reviewed by an esteemed international creative director or team. This week’s best TV/online ad is Olga Basha’s ‘New Jeans’.

The film was selected by this week’s guest judge Justin Joshua, Global Creative Specialist/Lead at The LEGO Group, based in Denmark.

Says Joshua: “A cinematic slice of everyday absurdity, sharp dialogue, twisted humor, and street-smart irreverence turn gross into fashionably gorgeous. Shot in a film-gritty street photography style, it nails the perfect tone for a streetwear brand.”

Olga Basha, the New York–based denim brand released ‘New Jeans,’ a dry-witted spot directed by Matias & Mathias of Epoch Films. With understated humour, cinematic flair, and a touch of gross-out irreverence, the film makes an unforgettable case for the brand’s jeans. Set in Manhattan, the story follows two friends at lunch when one of the girls spots her love interest across the street. At first glance, he seems like a real catch, until he begins a very public reveal of his questionable habits. Yet even as this man bites into a messy donut he found half eaten on the street, the girls never waver in their admiration for him and how he carries himself in his Olga Bashas. Matias & Mathias directed the spot with a cinematic touch. Anchored by naturalistic performances, crisp framing, and dialogue that feels real, it transforms what could have been a crude gag into something stylish and smart.
