Best job in the world? Merrin McCormick to transfer to SapientNitro New York in January 2010
Merrin McCormick, ranked the world’s number one copywriter this year, according to Ad Age’s Creativity report, will soon be calling the Big Apple home. McCormick, one of the creatives responsible for Tourism Queensland’s award-winning “Best Job in the World” campaign will transfer from the SapientNitro Brisbane office to the New York office in early January 2010.
“I’ve had an amazing time in Brisbane and we’re already working on global briefs there”, said McCormick, who has been with the agency since 2006. “I’m thrilled with the opportunity to work overseas, yet stay within the network.”
Adds SapientNitro, Brisbane joint creative director James Burchill:”Merrin was one of the first to join the agency and her star has beenon the rise ever since. She’s a great writer and an innovative andstrategic thinker. Of course it means now we’re on the hunt for anotherwriter of that calibre to work with one of the world’s most awarded artdirectors. We’re delighted for Merrin though we’ll miss her for sure.”

Smart and completely gorgeous! Merrin NY’s your oyster. We’ll miss you.
If that campaign’s award haul doesn’t open up a few global doors, we’re all fucked.
Many of us are staying tuned to see what’s next for the agency. Keep making creative history! Merrin- your work is inspirational! All the best!
That’s great, and proof you can stick it out in an average place then become ranked number one overnight.
Well done, I wish you all the best of luck.
congratulations merrin. living the dream!
I don’t know Merrin at all – obviously a hugely talented writer, so good luck to you.
I’m always a bit sceptical though when I hear terms like – “World’s best copywriter” thrown around. If this is true, how long has she had this title and for how long will it last?
My point is if an actor wins an Oscar, does that mean he’s the best actor in the world, or does that mean he’s been in the right place, right time etc, etc? I know I’m going to be crucified by these comment but I’d just like to put the cat amongst the pigeons.
What I see with many copywriters is some great awards but an inability to write and an inability to write for a range of disciplines. And all the under 30s (and even some over 30) buy into these rankings, repots, world’s best titles etc. For an industry that prides itself on critical, independent thinking there are a surprising amount of people who buy into these types of announcements.
Ben. Not so much a cat, as a one-legged weasel. Thinking you’re over thinking this mate.
‘World best job’ is the worlds best advertising written by the worlds best copywriter.
Crap.Even Merrin would be embarassed by the over simplification. I hope.
Good luck in the worlds hardest city.
Good luck Merrin,
watch for the robbers on 5th and 57th!
Ben, using ‘etc, etc?’ probably positions you as not the world’s best, so stop wanking.
If you’re the world’s best copywriter, why on earth would you go to Sapient Nitro NYC? Why not say…. Saatchi & Saatchi NYC? Droga 5 NYC?
‘Crucified by these comment’ – no, i’d say the word you were looking for is ‘suicide’.
Back to the 3rd grade, sire.
Congratulations to one of the hardest-working, unquestionably talented copywriters I’ve had the pleasure to meet. Merrin you totally deserve this and I wish you all the best!
Nice one Mez. Have a ball, and a club sandwich for me.
Congratulations Ms McCormick! A bold, yet well deserved change of address.
FYI anyone who knows Merrin will know that the comments of unsupportive naysayers will be falling on deaf ears. Merrin may look all innocent & doe eyed (thanks in part to the fabulous photographic styling of Serena Hodson) but she an unstoppable powerhaus of fast talkin’, straight shootin’ womanhood.
Robbers of NYC beware… she has a black belt Moonwalking & Running Man and she’s not afraid to use them 😉
