Aussies continue success run in US with release of Ad Age 2019 A-List Creativity Awards shortlist
Australian creatives continue to enjoy huge success in the US with the release of the shortlist of the prestigious Ad Age 2019 A-List Creativity Awards.
On the shortlist for Agency of the Year are part Aussie-owned Droga5 New York and Johannes Leonardo, New York.
Out of the six finalists for Creative of the Year, there are three Australians: senior copywriter Mietta McFarlane (above) and senior art director Luke Chard (above) from Droga5 New York, and Alex Romans (left), creative director at Wieden & Kennedy, New York. Three out of six Aussies – that’s out of all of North America.
In the Creative Director of the Year category there are two Aussie finalists out of the shortlist of seven: Rohan Cooke and Laura Petruccelli (left), creative directors at Goodby Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco – both ex Melbourne.
On the shortlist for chief creative officer of the Year is Australian Neil Heyman (left), the CCO of Droga5, New York.
And in the work categories Australia has the Tourism Australia ‘Dundee’ campaign via Droga5 New York as one of the two finalists in Content Marketing of the Year and one of three in the Campaign of the Year. The campaign was created by Aussie expats Jim Curtis and Ryan Fitzgerald (above right).
Mietta McFarlane and Luke Chard from Droga5 New York are shortlisted for UNESCO ‘Word Press Freedom Day’, one of six finalists in the Best Work for Good category.
A great story and quite an inspiration to those kids slugging it out in agencies here. Also, we can be reassured that there are very talented replacements for all those old rock stars who’ll be there at the CB All-Time Dream-Team Legendary Lunch on Thursday.

Chardy is such a great guy. Last time I saw him, he hugged me.

Worked with Mietta and Luke when they were juniors and they were really ambitious but nice kids..Good to see that they have done so well.

Wish they’d all come back. The industry here could do with such talent at the moment.
Well done to all of them.Gotta like that they are gutsy enough to get out of this small pond and take on the big guys.
Why would they come back here to work with shit scared CMO’s and put their talents to conservative briefs for mediocre agencies.
Stay right where you are guys.
Particularly nice to see two Aussie female creatives being recognised.
Go Mietta and Luke!!!!!!!
What a great story amid all the negative comments usually found here.Nice to read something positive for a change.
