Aussies + CommBank smash World Record in ‘most people wearing the same full team kit’ category to welcome Olympic team to the UK
Last night 935 Australians joined Commonwealth Bank to smash the previous Guinness World Record of 537 for the “Most People Wearing the Same Full Team Kit”.
Australians in London came together and donned the famous green and gold to welcome the Australian Olympic Team to the UK.
With special guests including Aussie swimming legend and Commonwealth Bank ambassador Geoff Huegill (pictured) showing support for the national team, the evening was a celebration of all things Australian, from snags on the barbie to a full night of the finest Aussie music and entertainment. The highlight of the event was the setting of the new World Record, which was broadcast live to millions of Australians back home on Channel 9’s Today Show.
Spelling out a huge G’Day on Clapham Common, the Australians sent a clear message to Britain to announce their team’s arrival in London. The crowd was captured in the G’Day formation in a gigapixel photo, allowing them to log onto Facebook after the event, zoom in and tag themselves in the picture.
Speaking at the event, Huegill said: “It was great to see the first world record of the summer go to Australia. The level of support for the Aussie team in the UK was fantastic to see. This must be the biggest splash of green and gold London’s ever seen. We always knew we could do it; if anyone can, the Aussies CAN.”
Says Andy Lark, chief marketing & online officer, Commonwealth Bank: “We wanted to organise something that would give Aussies in London the chance to get behind our national team. Commonwealth Bank has been supporting Australian sport for decades and it’s our job to let the team know that we, and the entire nation, are behind them. Hopefully this record is the start of things to come for Australia this summer.”
