Aussie creative Simon Dobbin reflects on his recent experience art directing Contagion for Oscar winning director Steven Soderbergh

Australian commercial production designer/art director Simon Dobbin (pictured), has recently wrapped up working on Warner Bros’ box office hit Contagion, a film by Oscar award-winning director Steven Soderbergh.

Dobbin, who has worked with brands including MTV, Dell, Corona, Optus, Oral-B and Land Rover, was given the helm to art direct the Asian leg of this creatively demanding feature film. With a sizeable art department crew and a substantial budget, it was a rewarding albeit a challenging task.

Says Dobbin: “I am thrilled and excited with this feature film and encourage you to enjoy this epic release as much as I did making it. From building casinos on floating restaurants and bringing in all manner of props from around the globe, it was a uniquely demanding role that allowed me to collaborate with an incredibly talented director and experienced crew.”

Contagion production designer Howard Cummings believes Dobbin mastered the Asian portion of the film, which presented an array of unique challenges including language and cultural barriers.
