Australian born concept www.myheartwill.com offers a totally new kind of social media tool
Walkley award-winning journalist, Jill Margo, film producer and new media guru, Chris Adams and Whale Rider’s, John Barnett, have come together to launch www.myheartwill.com – a new media project that is ground-breaking, heart-felt and personally relevant to them all.
My Heart Will is a social legacy network that offers worldwide users the chance to create, share and store their memories in a safe, private and secure environment that will live on for generations to come.
The Australian-born concept, www.myheartwill.com goes live today, a welcome entrant into today’s frenetic Zeitgeist of on-line social media and networking sites.
The concept was inspired by Jill Margo’s best-selling book ‘Living On’, which she co-authored with her daughter, Emily. The book is a guide to creating personal legacies – how to capture your life, memories, thoughts and expressions – in a ‘leave behind’ format for your loved ones.
John Barnett, a close friend of Jill’s and critically acclaimed film producer, responsible for films such as Whale Rider and Sione’s Wedding, captured the ‘Living On’ concept and decided to translate it into a web-based format.
www.myheartwill.com enables individuals to create a legacy of their lives in the form of a virtual ‘safe box’, a haven where treasured memorabilia and dedicated expressions of love are stored and protected, supported by state-of-the-art technology.
The concept of ’emotional legacies’ is something that Jill Margo has been passionately involved with for a while; “It started as a favour for a friend who knew a young mother of three who was dying and was in great distress about how her children would manage without her. She wanted to leave them with a sense of herself, her love, faith and memories. I drew up a simple plan to help her make a tape. And, it was this plan that formed the basis of ‘Living On’.
“Most people plan to leave a material legacy. They have a legal will, which allocates their material belongs. But some people want to leave more than just belongings.”
“My Heart Will is an extension of ‘Living On’. By using the internet as a storage space for these memories, they can never be lost or damaged. It is a simple and secure way of gathering important memories, photos and documents that are too precious to lose.”
“Over the 18-months we’ve been building the site, we’ve learned it’s as much a tool to adopt throughout your life, rather than just a parting gift for those you leave behind.
“Every single person we’ve shared the concept with says the same thing – ‘I want to start one tomorrow.’ And they’re all ages, all stages of life, from all denominations.
“People have a genuine desire to capture their lives. Other on-line platforms already exist that serve part of this function, but they’re frenzied, they’re fast, extremely public and by nature, pretty superficial.
“Here is a conscience-driven, thoughtful, evocative web-based tool that takes social marketing to a much deeper level.”
So too believes new media pioneer, Chris Adams, founder and president of LA-based, Orbit Media Group, who has been involved in the structure and technical capability of the site.
When Adams was invited to work on www.myheartwill.com, he leapt at the chance.
“John took me through the concept and I honestly thought it was one of the best ideas I’d heard for years. A place for the thoughtful, deep and meaningful to thrive.”
“www.myheartwill.com is a totally new kind of social media tool that builds on the wake of its predecessors Facebook, MySpace, Twitter – phenomenal new interactive platforms that have dramatically changed the way we communicate, virtually overnight.
“As engaging and entertaining as they are, the speed at which we are being asked to interact within these platforms is rampant. This is great for instant connection and real-time updates, but when it comes to sharing the stories and content that comprise a person’s life, they are lacking – this is where www.myheartwill.com comes into play.”
“www.myheartwill.com is a whole new consumer proposition. It takes us on a totally new journey – there’s no hurry to build your own legacy, it can be as simple or as complex as you like. You have your whole life to tell your stories, or you can create something meaningful in an hour!”
Chris’ credentials are phenomenal, having been central to the creation and success of web institutions and mega-brands, E-Bay, Amazon and Facebook. Chris also created Participant Productions whose goal is to create entertainment that inspires audiences to make social change. Films have included Syriana, North Country, Good Night and Good Luck, MurderBall and An Inconvenient Truth. All of which have earned a raft of critical acclaim.
www.myheartwill.com has been produced by New Zealand-based independent multi-media entertainment company, Satellite Media.
