Atomic 212° and Charles Darwin University announce 2025 scholarship winners

Atomic 212° has awarded its latest scholarships through Charles Darwin University (CDU) to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students pursuing careers in nursing and media, reinforcing its commitment to education and professional development in the Northern Territory and beyond.

This year, the agency has awarded one full scholarship in nursing and provided additional financial support to two highly deserving candidates, Kia Gowler (above left) and Keitha Virdi (above right), who received partial scholarships to assist with their nursing studies.

The scholarship program, established in partnership with CDU in 2022, reflects Atomic 212°’s ongoing commitment to the Northern Territory by providing practical financial support and fostering industry connections to First Nations students there.

This year’s selection process was particularly competitive, including an in-depth panel interview where Atomic 212° representatives engaged directly with candidates.

Atomic 212° P&C Business Partner, Eloise Baker, said: “This year we had an exceptionally strong group of applicants. It was inspiring to meet such driven individuals and we’re thrilled to support their educational journey.

“This initiative is part of Atomic 212°’s broader accountability philosophy, emphasising the importance of community engagement and meaningful support beyond financial contributions alone, especially in the NT.”

Atomic 212° General Manager, Brisbane and Darwin, Damien O’Brien, said: “Atomic 212° has always valued being accountable not just to our clients, but to the communities in which we operate.

“Supporting First Nations education, particularly in vital areas like nursing and media, aligns with our values and our commitment to the NT. We’re proud once again to be doing it this year, and to see the support go to such worthy individuals.”

CDU’s Associate Director, Alumni and Giving, David MacBain, said: “CDU is pleased to be able to offer the Atomic 212° scholarships for the third year in a row. Thanks to Atomic 212°’s ongoing support, we have awarded seven full and two partial scholarships to First Nations students since 2022. These scholarships really do make a huge difference to our students, and we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Atomic 212°and growing the program in the future.”

Scholarship recipients Kia Gowler said: “I would like to express my gratitude for being awarded the scholarship. It will support me to complete my nursing studies to achieve my goal of becoming a registered nurse. As the first person in my family to attend university, I am incredibly proud and grateful for this opportunity.”

Keitha Virdi said: “A sincere thank you to Atomic 212° for its generous support. Its investment in my education means more than words can fully express. It brings me one step closer to achieving my academic and professional goals.”

Atomic 212° and CDU plan to continue expanding the scholarship program, with additional funding and support anticipated in the coming years.
