Artist Simon Degroot wins Taxi Film Productions’ Street Art Challenge, prompted by graffiti attack
When Taxi Film Production’s Brisbane office was vandalised with a massive tag in early July they threw down their own street art challenge. Taxi saw the large wall as a blank canvas and put out a call for an artist to create whatever they want on the front of their building.
Artist Simon Degroot was selected from dozens of artists who contacted Taxi wanting to paint the space and was given complete free reign to create the artwork of his choice, resulting in the large abstract painting titled RHIZOME.
In addition to the roller door painting, Degroot has also created a series of smaller paintings based on the large artwork. As a result Taxi will hold an exhibition in their Brisbane office showcasing the entire series of paintings from 15th – 30th November.
After receiving strong feedback from artists and the local community, the team at Taxi has begun to work with a number of artists to create a series of public artworks on blank spaces, big and small, around Brisbane.
