Art meets advertising in the Southern Highlands this Saturday, February 22 at The SHAC

A new exhibition by awarded Sydney artist, Louisa Chircop, opens this Saturday, February 22 at The Southern Highlands Artisans Collective (The SHAC), Robertson, in the NSW Southern Highlands.

The exhibition, ‘Come Shower With Me’, sees Chircop utilise the idea of the history of women’s activity in the bathroom and the concept of showering to parallel her creative process in an ode to free association and surrealism, similarly the way ideas come to mind in the shower.

The SHAC is led by advertising identity Patsy Peacock. Says Chircop’s husband, Spark 44 Creative Director Steve May, “Knowing Patsy and Lynchy for many years, and learning of their involvement in The SHAC, I thought why not introduce them to Louisa and her work? It was love at first sight, and before we knew it, invites were printed and Louisa was having an exhibition next to The Big Potato.”

Chircop, a highly credentialed artist and tertiary art lecturer, has accumulated numerous accolades over the years, including a finalist in the Dobell Prize AGNSW and many other renowned art awards. Once the exhibition finishes, she returns to France for a second time as winner of the prestigious DRAWinternational artist in residence program. Her work has also work been acquired into the Kedumba Collection, considered the most prestigious drawing collection in Australia.

May continues: “Being an artist is a tough gig, but after many late nights, her show is looking terrific and will no doubt feel right at home in the wonderful The SHAC gallery. So if anyone’s after a dash of culture and a relaxing drive this weekend, come up for the opening – it really is a rural creative oasis. And I’m sure the local businesses in Robertson would be grateful for the lunches and beers bought there after the fires.”

The SHAC plays host to another exhibition with a strong advertising industry link later in the year with a show by awarded creative director Matt Smith and top advertising photographer Sean Izzard.
