No Place for Poverty has launched with a clear purpose: to create a WA where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

In a state known for its resilience and community spirit, Western Australia is facing a hidden crisis (that is unfortunately becoming less hidden by the day). 358,000 people, including one in six WA kids, are now living in poverty. No Place for Poverty, in collaboration with Anthologie, is challenging this status quo with a new movement that reflects a commitment to ending poverty in Western Australia – by creating fairer systems and more engaged communities.

This grassroots initiative (formerly known as The Equity Project) was created in partnership with some of WA’s most influential NGOs in the community sector. It aims to shift public perception, challenge poverty stereotypes, and advocate for local and national policy change to create a fairer, more compassionate WA. The movement focuses on empowering communities to recognise and address systemic barriers that perpetuate poverty, and will create toolkits for future community engagement and events. The new name, developed with Anthologie, is a rallying cry and a mission statement.

Alexander Hughes, Communicare Lead for the movement, said, “Poverty has been on the rise in WA for a while now, and is showing no signs of slowing down. No Place for Poverty is ultimately a rallying cry for change and reflects our determination to create a fairer future for all. Partnering with Anthologie has allowed us to turn our vision into a powerful movement that will drive real impact. We want to keep the conversation going, and drive an agenda that informs, unites, empowers, and mobilises West Aussies to end poverty.”

The project is the latest in a series of Impact Partnerships that Anthologie has developed with local and international organisations to create real change.

Amy Sutton, Anthologie Founder, said, “Anthologie has been focused on how we can make a difference on four main areas of impact – Health and Humanity, Environment, Education and Community. As an Impact Partner, we go beyond the traditional agency model to create stronger collaborations and broader societal impact. No Place for Poverty is a mission that stretches across every impact area we work in, making this partnership a natural fit. We were able to work with an incredibly passionate team and community of lived experience advocates, which was critical in delivering the right message in the right way.”

Building a social movement of this scale has required a design-thinking approach, with collaboration and impact goals at its heart. Anthologie and No Place for Poverty collaborated with lived experience groups and organisations across WA, to craft a shared vision of what ‘No Poverty’ would look like. Together, they developed a roadmap for change, laying the groundwork for a multi-year initiative aimed at putting poverty squarely on the political and public agenda.

Anthologie’s Executive Creative Director, Josh Edge, said, “Poverty is misunderstood around the world, but particularly in a rich state like WA. We think of it manifesting in visible ways like homelessness, or ‘being on the dole’, but it’s so much more insidious and systemic than that. Most WA people think of ourselves as a community who believes in a fair go, and I think we’ve been struggling to reconcile our rising inequity and cost of living conversations that are biting hard for a lot of people. No Place for Poverty is a chance for us to reset, have the tough conversations, and give us an outlet to express empathy as we push for the right changes.”

To make this vision actionable, Anthologie have been developing a cohesive brand and communications toolkit designed to empower WA stakeholders, communities and partners. They have built a scalable website to act as a dynamic and growing hub that will provide ongoing educational resources and foster collaboration. Soon, the site and social channels will not only amplify awareness, but equip individuals and organisations with the means and messaging to drive systemic change.
