Andy Flemming departs creative lead role at 72andSunny – available for new opportunities
After more than three years as creative lead at 72andSunny ANZ, award-winning writer and industry legend Andy Flemming has bid farewell to the agency and is now available for new opportunities.
Flemming told CB: “After fifteen years at M&C, I always assumed I’d head to another vast agency. So when 72andSunny were keen I kind of saw it as a bit of a palette cleanser before the big one. But being reunited with my mate (the genius) Gen Hoey was just too much fun to leave. Alongside Luke Martin’s enthusiasm and mysterious yogic energy we formed a kind of creative triumvirate and it just clicked. 72’s an amazing place and I genuinely look forward to seeing their next evolution. Obviously that evolution doesn’t have me in it, but on the upside it does mean that I can finish Stalker 2 on the XBOX.”
Flemming’s departure comes five weeks after CB revealed the appointment of new CCO Wesley Hawes, who joins 72andSunny in January.
Flemming’s career is nothing short of iconic. Prior to joining 72andSunny, he spent over 15 years at M&C Saatchi Sydney as group creative director, where he became one of the most influential voices in the industry. Alongside creative heavyweight Tom McFarlane, Flemming was instrumental in crafting the groundbreaking CommBank ‘CAN’ brand – a campaign that set new standards in brand storytelling.
With a portfolio that reads like a masterclass in advertising excellence, Flemming has been behind some of Australia’s most unforgettable campaigns including ‘Can Kids’ for CommBank, the ‘Ricky Gervais’ and ‘Idris Elba’ campaigns for Optus and Tourism Australia’s extravagant ‘MateSong’. Flemming’s work has consistently pushed creative boundaries. With countless accolades from Cannes Lions, D&AD, and beyond, his impact on the industry is both profound and far-reaching.
Flemming isn’t just a creative powerhouse; he’s also a celebrated industry voice. His long-running ‘Cannes Diaries’ for Campaign Brief have offered a witty and insightful behind-the-scenes look at the advertising world’s biggest stage, attracting hundreds of thousands of readers worldwide.
Since beginning his career in 1988 in London, Flemming has truly gone global, leaving his creative mark at agencies such as Chiat/Day Sydney, BSB Hong Kong, Bates CHI Singapore, George Patterson Melbourne, and more. Now, as he ventures into the freelance world, Flemming brings with him decades of unparalleled expertise, a proven track record of delivering award-winning work, and an unmatched ability to inspire.
