AIRBAG’s Aaron Wilson wins Best Feature Film Direction at Australian Director’s Guild awards 

Airbag director Aaron Wilson returns from the International feature film festival circuit, and wins an Australian Directors Guild Best Direction (Narrative Feature Film, Budget <$1M) gong for his feature film ‘Little Tornadoes’.

For Wilson, this feature has been a passion project extending over many years, and this most recent accolade fills him with a sense of catharsis.

Says Wilson: “It’s an immense honour to be acknowledged and recognised by my peers, who are such amazing, inspiring heroes of mine. This award is dedicated to the great many talented folk who collaborated with and supported me to bring ‘Little Tornadoes’ to life.”

Co-written by acclaimed writer Christos Tsiolkas (The Slap, Head On), ‘Little Tornadoes’ depicts a newly-single father’s struggles to weather the turbulence of change, while a new immigrant endeavours to find her place in a foreign land.

The film distils the many upheavals of 1970s Australia, from immigration and post-war resettlement to urbanisation, anti-Vietnam War protests and the women’s liberation movement – into a narrative about one man’s struggle to adapt. Little Tornadoes is a portrait of a country at a turning point and the human desire for connection.
