Air New Zealand says farewell to ‘Dave the Goose’ as Aussie icon jets off to Hollywood in new campaign via Bastion Shine and Vision Thing
Air New Zealand is bidding a heartfelt farewell to its cherished mascot, ‘Dave the Goose’, as he embarks on an exciting new journey to pursue his dreams of glitz and glamour under the bright lights of Hollywood. Now, the Kiwi airline will see Dave fly the nest as he makes the journey north in his final campaign with Air New Zealand via Bastion Shine and Vision Thing.
Voiced by the iconic Australian actor Bryan Brown since 2016 as part of the award winning “Better way to fly” campaign, Dave has been the star of a flock of advertisements, which saw him spread his wings in Los Angeles, Canada, and New Zealand.
There’s been no shortage of friends made along the way, including ‘Pete the Kiwi’ (voiced by Sam Neill).
Dave’s journey hasn’t been smooth sailing after famously ruffling the feathers of a certain other aviation goose who tried to replicate Dave’s success.
Air New Zealand general manager of Australia Kathryn O’Brien says Dave has been an icon of Air New Zealand’s Aussie ads for eight years and will be missed by his Kiwi cousins: “Dave the Goose has been an integral member of the Air New Zealand crew, answering the call without a honk when asked to highlight our international network to Australian travellers.
“As we bid farewell to Dave, we thank him for embodying the spirit of adventure and mateship, and reminisce on the times he captivated our Aussie passengers. Dave will always have a place in our hearts, we wish him good luck and nothing but clear skies in his pursuit of stardom.”
Voice of ‘Dave the Goose’, Bryan Brown also penned a sign off to his mate: “Dave brings out my inner goose. I’m going to miss him but know he’s going to hit the heights in his new career.”
After eight years in the spotlight, dozens of adventures and countless smiles, from everyone at Air New Zealand, fly-high, Dave.
