After two years, The Communication Council’s Daniel Leesong departs the CEO gig; ex Lion Nathan’s Margaret Zabel to take interim CEO role
The Communications Council chief executive officer Daniel Leesong (left) will leave the peak industry body effective immediately, after almost two years in the position.
Margaret Zabel (below), ex national marketing director of Lion Nathan will assume the CEO role in the interim, whilst a search for a full time replacement is undertaken.
The Communications Council chairman, Anthony Freedman said: “Daniel’s departure is regrettable but provides an opportunity to bring new leadership to the Council as we move toward our third year of operation.”
“Margaret’s exceptional commercial experience and close working relationship with many agencies around Australia, will bring new and valuable insights to both developing a clear vision and strategy for the future as well a fresh ‘client side’ viewpoint on many aspects of our work at The Communications Council.”
Hourigan International has agreed to assist The Communications Council with the executive search on a pro bono basis and will be considering both local and international candidates.

This could, possibly should, be a short search by the two Anthonys.
Margaret is an inspired choice for interim CEO and must be a leading contender for the permanent role.
