After 23 years industry legend Rob Belgiovane steps back from Group CCO role at BWM Dentsu
After 23 years as the creative lead in Australia’s most enduring advertising partnership, Campaign Brief can reveal that Rob Belgiovane will be stepping back from his Group Chief Creative officer role at BWM Dentsu. He will continue to act in an advisory capacity for the business and its key clients.
Belgiovane told CB: “After so many years of driving excellence in creativity at BWM Dentsu it is time for me to step back. I do so in the knowledge that the creative output from the agency, in particular from Asheen Naidu, our former ECD in Sydney and Phil Van Bruchem, ECD in Melbourne and their respective teams, has resulted in BWM Dentsu being ranked 9th in the world last year in terms of creativity for awards across several clients, which culminated in a Cannes Lions Grand Prix and a D&AD Black Pencil.
“To be part of a culture and team that drove the agency to the pinnacle of the world’s best awards gives me the satisfaction that we have a team in place who will continue to deliver outstanding results for our clients for years to come.”
Says Paul Williams, Group CEO: “In January, Rob took a step back from his day-to-day management with BWM Dentsu for personal reasons. He continues to consult with the agency on brands such as Toyota and REA Group.
“With more than 30 years in the creative industry helping Jamie and me build the BWM Dentsu brand, Rob has one of the best minds in advertising and marketing. We are fortunate that he is still able to continue supporting the growth of our business by providing strategic counsel and advising key clients,” said Williams.
BWM Dentsu was acquired by Dentsu Aegis Network in 2015 and has grown to over 200 staff across offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Prior to BWM, Belgiovane was the executive creative director of Saatchi & Saatchi, Melbourne from 1994 to 1996, and before that was a founding partner of Belgiovane Atkinson Moses from 1988 to 1994.

Great career. Great man. Thanks for everything mate.
Likewise Ash, we had a lot of fun and did some fabulous work.
Congrats Belgo. You leave a huge legacy. Looking forward to lunch soon.
Thanks Ant, but Paul and Jamie are keeping me busy and because of Covid no one has noticed I’m not in the office very day 😁😁
Lunch soon.
Some fun times and great work over the years Rob. Nice one. Hadders.
Thanks Hadders, we certainly pulled a few “rabbits” out of hats!!
Great guy, great talent. Congrats on having fun, and selling your agency, and buying it back and then selling it again!!! Masterful.
‘To keep the rabbits out’ Iconic. Well done on all the great work Rob.
Thanks Ant, its been a lot of fun
Well done Rob.
You had the guts to start a business and the smarts to know when to sell it (twice!).
Along the way you created some great work and created a lot of jobs.
The industry needs more like you.
Good luck.
We do go back a ways. You have always been in my corner and a true supporter so thanks! You’ve had an amazing career Rob, awesome and by the sounds not over yet by any stretch.
A great Guy, he will be missed!
Beljo, it was the best, most fun time of my career working with you. I have so many fond memories my friend. Love Abby x
What a ride mate! A true part of the Aussie industry and one of its best characters too. See you soon.
A lovely legend.
Much much respect. The Revoice case study gets me every time. What a swansong to a formidable career.
All the very best, Belgio. Not everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s what I love most about you – our industry is poorer for losing such a strong character with such a well-honed point of view.
Congrats Rob. You deserve every kind and positive word said. You have done so much for the industry and you will of course be missed, but nice to know you are still going to staying close.
Best
Nick
All the best Rob, you made a difference
Congratulations Rob, a true industry legend.
It’s a Wild World – Rage It…got Ralph to thank for that and have you to thank for Ralph. Have fun Belgio, Don’t write on the wallpaper…its a bitch to get off.
Look forward to building upon the amazing agency you created, Rob. See you in the new office for a drink soon!
Mate what you achieved in the last few years in terms of driving creativity and understanding it was right up there . You may be a mate but in saying that I am being objective . Rob your creative passion ensures that we will see your name in lights again
Thanks Terry.
Will miss you Rob!
Thanks Merlee, but as Arnie said “I’ll be back” 😁😁
Belgio, never been a better time to step back.
Missing the glory days together in Mountain St, when art directors could be whichever Natasha they wanted to be, and by god, weren’t they fantastic.
You facilitated a lot of careers, hopes and the occasional ad mate, and you did it well.
Well done.
Onya Rob.
A great bloke who contributed much to the advertising industry.
All the best.
I like how the boomers all post with their names.
I don’t have a name in advertising, but nice to see the ones who do have a name…use their name.
This has made me smile a LOT. Really happy for you Rob. Sounds like the perfect arrangement, stepping back but still being able to jump in where needed. Or poke your nose in when you want! A true legend indeed. I am lucky to have shared so many great, exciting, fun & crazy moments with you over the years. Looking forward to having a Peroni or glass of vino with you somewhere down the track…DW
Good on you for sticking with this ridiculous industry for as long as you did. Eventually we all tire of it, so enjoy doing something different, something less intense or nothing at all.
I wonder if the latest ‘rebrand’ was the last straw.
What an extraordinary ride it’s been Rob.
Although it sounds like you’re not quite off the bucking bronco yet.
Well done.
See you at Bill’s for a coffee.
I knew Rob when he had hair.

Wow Roberto it’s been over 30 years and I just discovered what an astonishing creative career you had… After our hilarious meeting in Firenze and your visit to California in the 80s I knew you were an amazing guy but I had no idea you achieved such great success upon your return to Australia! Anyway would love to hear from you sometime and I left my email… cheers!
