Accounting platform Xero chops Australia’s big mango in half in new campaign via Hello Social

Online accounting platform Xero is sending a big message to all Australians in a new campaign via Hello Social.

The campaign sees Australia’s Big Mango and other ‘big things’ chopped in half to draw attention to the problem of late payments and how they’re seriously impacting Australian small businesses.

Late payments cost the small business economy more than $1.1 billion a year. Data shows over half of invoices issued by small businesses were paid late in 2021, and around 10% were paid more than a month after they were due.

Xero has enlisted Lee Lin Chin (who has come half out of retirement) to break the news of its “Pay It, Don’t Delay It” initiative which is giving small business owners waiting on a late payment or a consumer who’s paid on time the chance to win up to $2,000 back from a $150,000 prize pool.

Sam Kelly, managing director, Hello Social: “Aussie’s claim they don’t do things by halves, but we’ve seen when it comes to small business payments, that’s certainly not the case. We wanted to create a visually symbolic representation of this big issue by applying the same logic to Australia’s big things! You can’t live life by halves. This witty tongue in cheek stunt and the subsequent social coverage and consumer competition aim to draw awareness of the issue and start to change behaviour.”

Small business owners and consumers can submit their proof of payment and invoice here to be in the running to win. The competition is open until 23 March 2023.
