ABC’s The Piano strikes a joyful chord with activation at Circular Quay via Curious Nation

Brand activation agency Curious Nation has brought the magic of ABC’s heartwarming new series The Piano to life, turning Sydney’s Circular Quay into Circular Keys for one unforgettable day of music, joy and surprise.
The Piano, hosted by Amanda Keller and featuring global star Harry Connick Jr and renowned concert pianist Andrea Lam, invites talented amateur pianists from all walks of life to perform in bustling public spaces, unaware they are being secretly observed by the two musical greats.
Tasked by the ABC to drive awareness for The Piano and activate audiences through word-of-mouth and social content, Curious Nation delivered an interactive, talent-led performance that struck a chord with passers-by and online audiences during one of Sydney’s most popular and immersive outdoor festival of light, music and ideas, Vivid.

At the heart of the activation was a giant, 15m long custom-built interactive piano that lit up with every step as it was played with feet, rather than fingers, encouraging people of all ages to unleash their inner pianist and share in the delight of spontaneous musical expression.
Throughout the day, dancers performed crowd-pleasing renditions of Clocks by Coldplay and Baby Shark, while a surprise performance from The Piano’s mentor Andrea Lam added star power with a unique delivery of some classical pieces.
Stephanie Babin, managing partner at Curious Nation, said: “The Piano is a celebration of untapped talent, community and the transformative power of music. Our goal was to bring that spirit to life in a way that felt both joyful and unifying. Circular Quay gave us the perfect stage, where the public became the performers, and the amazing content was amplified across social media.”
Siobhan McGeown, acting group marketing manager at ABC, added: “The Piano is a show that surprises and uplifts, and Curious Nation’s activation captured that essence beautifully. It was utterly memorable and the perfect way to build buzz and introduce Australians to a show they’ll fall in love with.”
