Eric Stonestreet unleashes the largest army of toys for Big W in new spot via Saatchi & Saatchi
For this year’s Giant Toy Spectacular, BIG W and Saatchi & Saatchi Australia have created the mightiest army of toys ever assembled.
The first days of the Giant Toy Spectacular are the single busiest days of the year for BIG W with mums and dads getting a first look and the best prices on all the must-have Christmas toys and games. Over half of all customers place their Christmas purchases on layby to pay them off in the months leading up to December, with increasing numbers utilising the money saving service through the BIG W website and smart phone app.
Commanded by BIG W brand ambassador Eric Stonestreet – star of TV’s Modern Family – the massive toy army features endless ranks of Ninja Turtles, Barbies, Spidermen, Monster High figures and many more of Australia’s favourite toys.
The customer is invited via radio and Facebook to “assemble their own toy army” for the chance to win a trolley dash in their local BIG W store. Nova will also be promoting the competition and asking kids to phone in, saying who they want in their toy army.
Through a partnership with Disney, BIG W has taken the army of toys to the wider kids community. Reporting from the BIG W news desk, reporters speak to kids and toy experts, asking who they would want in their own army.
Taking the army to the streets and stores, customers are invited to lead their own army of toys. In collaboration with Maverick, a digital app allows participants to populate their own toy army to lead and then share the video via social media.
Viewa has been integrated into the Woman’s Day mini catalogue which allows readers to scan the page they like and make a purchase on their mobile phone.
Online from Wednesday 19 June and in-store from Thursday 27 June, the Giant Toy Spectacular is set to be BIG W’s mightiest toy sale yet.

nice work danny boy
Love it.
Good work Saatchis. Nice spot.
Oh My God.
Remember when Nobby led Saatchis to three Agency of the Year awards in a row?
Seems like a lifetime, doesn’t it?
This work is in danger of making Horton and the Big Red work for Big W rival Target look like great creative.
Must have blown the budget on the talent, huh?
Well played all round boys. Lovely stuff.
Ha ha. Well done Saatchis. A step in the right direction for Big W too.
@ Gobsmacked. You bitter old boob.
Tight script. Laffs all round.
What a charming little spot.
Cha Ching !!
Bravo! Clap! Clap!
Embarrassing, I know, but then it’s Big W in Australia, so no one will see it really, and my check didn’t bounce.
Don’t know how the locals manage though, and they even put their names to it.
Go figure.
That’s probably about as fun as you’re going to get for retail. It’s actually quite nicely done. Now the rest of their low-rent branding and advertising needs to catch-up.
Nice work – let’s catch up for a beer soon, lads. JJ
Anyone?
Well done boys. Putting a laugh into retail. CHA CHING.
It’s good. Funny. Stands out in the category. Why knock it?
Fuck, it’s hard to get decent stuff out in the down and dirty world of discount retail. So well done Saatchis for getting this through.
Nice print too.
As someone who works on a competitors brand I say “Well done”. Its not easy doing toy sales and never-ending 30% offers; but if you have to do it, you’d like to be able to do it this good. Great production. Great script. great talent. So, well done Saatchis.
Heh heh heh heh heh heh. LOve it.
What’s the name of the soundtrack?
