The research shows that these 40 young people are 6 times more likely to be at risk of mental health issues than their friends.

In response to this research, CanTeen is launching a national campaign designed to raise public awareness about the mental health issues that can arise in young people when dealing with a parent’s cancer.

“The findings speak for themselves – young people in society today are dealing with more life choices and pressures and adding a parent’s cancer to the mix significantly increases the risk of developing anxiety or depression.By raising public awareness we hope that anyone who is in-contact or comes into contact with a young person in this situation will take action as they shouldn’t be going through this experience alone.”

The CanTeen campaign, which launches nationally today, will include radio, TV, cinema, online and print coverage.

The TVC and Cinema creative has been developed by Marlin Communications following the  success of their “Show Cancer Who’s Boss” campaign for National Bandanna Day – with a swift, animated film dramatizing the interruptive impact of cancer.

The national campaign will run across November and December with support from MLC Community Foundation.
