Optus launches ‘mind blowing’ 4G network integrated campaign via M&C Saatchi, Sydney
An M&C Saatchi-created campaign has customers “blown away” by the launch of the Optus 4G network.
The campaign has launched in press, outdoor and digital executions in Sydney, Perth and Newcastle, cities where the Optus 4G network has first rolled out.
More will follow when Optus 4G services go live in Melbourne on 15 September.
The creative features customers faces “blown away” by the 4G service, represented by the yellow cube enabling device, accompanied by the tagline: “Optus 4G. Brace yourself.”
The interactive digital banners enable users to simulate the wind-blowing effect on the customers’ faces.

I guess if you’re going to steal an idea, you might as well steal it from one of the most famous ads ever
fuck thats original
wish i had my imaginary digital pencil handy.
For some reason, I like this ad. not 100% sure I could explain why but I think it just touches the right emotion.

Nooooo, say it ain’t so…
It’s pointless to actually point out specific examples of where this idea has been done before. This has attained the exalted status of an Advertising Metacliche, on par with people who have fainted because the (insert product, discount or offer) is so amazing.
Any creative team given this brief will get this idea within the first 3 minutes, then move on. If they haven’t, then at least please get the final execution right. The etching-out looks like it was done by a gorilla after 19 shots of tequila.
this is so award school!
It’s nicely produced and does the job, what’s sadly derivative is this comment stream.
Craps over anything telstra is doing.
I am so sick of that boring as batshit design stuff.
Please DDB move on!!!!
What’s the problem, does the job. Sadly It’s the banality of these comment threads that blows me away
Where’s the random animal ?
it would be a tiny mind that would be blown by this, or judging by photoshopping could be another body part thats being blown
It’s hard to find anything that’s original today. For me this is simple and effective. Good job.
You refer to the Braille version, methinks, where the quality of the retouching is much less of a problem.
This is *not* how to pull off the old “XYZ is so fast / powerful that it will turn your cheeks amusingly flappy” gag, first seen in cave paintings dating from 34,000BC.
And even then, Cro-Magnon art directors were walking past and going: “Bah, done, me see before.”
I like it, it’s simple and make me smile.
Great shots.
Simple.
Funny.
Makes rainbow Telstra seem dull.
OPTUS. Makes you ugly.
Its really not the first time I’ve seen this ad for the same prop.
Someones been flicking through their old Epica books.
All the comments about ‘what’s the problem, it does the job’ etc. We’re in an industry where originality of thought is all we have to sell. If you think rehashing tired old visual metaphors is just fine, then get out of the industry and make way for one of the thousands of creative and enthusiastic young people trying their damnedest to get in.
No credits. The creatives must’ve known they were stealing and would get slammed on this blog.
Like it. Great photography. At least someone’s using photographers instead of Getty.
@Phew Just google image search ‘wind blown face’ it was always an option. Just goes to show how original it is.
Poo sauce. Nuff said.
@Nopets
you smile because you are simple
Is that Jonathan Kneebone?
Simple idea, well executed. Speaks directly to the product benefit.
Well done.
who cares? i want to know when I will get 4G on my iPhone ins sydney? 3G only started functioning about 6 weeks ago – go figure!
What if it was a pink box?
The series of photographs called ‘wind blown in face’ by Tadao Cern, was emailed around every office in May. Very funny.
Oh to be an art director! I’ll just reshoot it and claim it as an original idea. Lazy buggers. And I bet you didn’t get Mr. Cern to shoot this for you either?
Don’t forget to send him a thankyou card.
